x5m rear rotors

hey guys just put on a set of rear rotors on the m and ended up getting centric rotors from rockauto turns out these are identical to the oem rotors minus a BMW stamp will add pics.

Decided aganist the f85 rotors since I have them on the front and was not at all impressed with the finish which ended up rusting and turning to absolute shit within a few weeks after installing.

Centric rotors cost me 340/total OEM cost 550, F85 cost about 580 ... didnt feel like spending 600 bucks on something that is going to rust out and look like total shit.

Spent like 150 bucks on drilled and slotted rotors for m3 and they have survived over a year and through a winter without getting a spot of damn rust on them...

Damn! That’s shitty to hear. Does the outer rim and inner veins rust also? I might still get them in the future but paint the mounting area with black caliper paint.

Rusted throughout painting is an option a few coats of clear coat would probably do wonders disappointed on just how quickly it happened.

Then again it's purely visual but for such a price ....

That's interesting... the rotors are similar to my F80 M3 rotors, and i've had no problems.

Can you post pics of what the rust looks like?

I've only been able to source the rear's from Rockauto ...

Here are the pics of the F85 front rotors after just one year and a single NY winter with proper washes after every drive ... needless to say if I do decide to purchase these again I will be sure to put a few coats of high-temp clear on them to protect them from this.

btw rust on rotors is normal. Do clean all grease and packaging film off rotors before installing. Painting the pad surface of the rotor is a bad idea.

Yea rust on rotors is inevitable especially on the braking surface.

That said with these rotors going for around 600/set right now ... I paid around 750 at the time ... one might expect them to be treated from the factory to prevent rust on the non-braking surface but as you can tell from the pics this is not the case.

These went from looking great to shit within a week - The rotors on my M3 cost a fraction of the price, came power coated black and still look as good as the day I put them on, had I known these ridiculously expensive rotors would rust like this I would have treated them before putting them on and recommend doing so if you care about how they look.

I came across this product https://www.evapo-rust.com/product-info/ and plan to try it out to restore the finish and treat mine, personally I don't want some rusted out rotors like this.

I used a similar product and had good results in eliminating rust. Some products like, one from Loctite, allows the surface to be paintable afterwards.

Rust is the worst. I'm originally from the northeast and rust issues added so much time when I was reinforcing the Z3M's subframe. The worst was bolts that rusted and fused to bushing sleeves. After welding I spayed the loctite product then painted it.
