> Repair kit, brake pads asbestos free 34116799964 The following parts are essential: - brake pad sensor - brake pad paste The following recommendation applies to vehiclea more than 48 months old: - replace retaining spring I found: > brake pad wear sensor, front left 34356792568 > clip for brake pad sensor 34356794949 But i just can't find retaining spring and brake pad paste. I would just re-use the retaining spring. You can get brake paste at any auto parts store ( anti- squeal paste).

Save yourself the brake dust and skip the OEM pads... I just put the Centric Posi-Quiet in all around and the brake dust is SO much better.

How is the stopping power and initial grab. I like ceramic pads, but they don't seem to grab as well as OEM. Especially when cold or wet/rain. Would you say they are same, better or worse??

When you are done perhaps you can do a quick write up of your procedure for changing the pads

Typically, pad squeal is due to improper seating between the pad and rotor. This is even more evident when pads and rotors are not properly bedded together after installation. Properly bedding pads and rotors is very important, and it will help improve the pad performance if done properly. Honestly, the pads have been fine. The X is my wife's vehicle, so it gets driven extremely gently. So, the pads never really get HOT, although they do still perform just fine. I've done a few heavy stops and they were great. Also, I did bed them in upon installation, and I definitely feel like it helped improve performance. So, to sum up my thoughts, I feel the Posi-Quiets have the same performance for daily driving duty with the added benefit of very low dust. I'm happy with them, especially for the $110 price tag for the full set.

If you're asking these kinds of questions perhaps you should get a more experienced friend to help with this first time around. Brakes are kind of important

You do definitely want to make sure things are done correctly if its your first go, but that being said, brake pads are easy. As for the paste, don't waste your time/money buying BMW branded brake paste. Get one of those little squirt packs of never seize at the local AutoZone/Pep Boys/etc. and use that. Copper anti-seize is what I use... High heat resistance.

Aren't the OEM pads dustier because they are softer? I would think a softer pad wouldn't be so hard on the rotors, thus extending the rotor's life. Something has to give, either the pad or the rotor. Have you heard anything about these compared to the stocks in terms of hardness?

My race pads dust like a mofo, and eat up the rotors more often. (Not a BMW application) I'd take a ceramic pad all the time on my X5 when it's time to swap pads as part of normal maintenance. I don't tow anything, and for the street, it'll be perfect for the application. |

For what it's worth, I have a brand new set of OEM rear pads. The dealer wouldn't put my Posi Quiet pads on when they did the last brake service, so I drove it home and swapped them out myself. The pads have about 30 miles on them, $20 plus shipping if anyone wants them.

A lot of dealers will not install parts the customer brings in. There are multiple reasons, liability, if the part doesn't fit properly and takes more time to install, etc. If you are under maintenance, then BMW is providing the parts. Typically if you want your own parts installed, you need to go to an independent mechanic and even some of them will not install parts you bring in.

Yeah, I don't know. They know me pretty well, know that I do 90% of my own work anyway. In fact, the only reason I even brought it there for brakes is because I do have the extended maintenance. They flushed the fluid too, so it was worth it for me there.
