Drivetrain issue..help
I installed my 22's month ago or so. Been ok since then till now . I've been feelin for a few days a jolt when driving off a stand still at the switch of first gear. Kinda jerks very rough, also there is a vibration in the driveline Btwn 10-40 mph. After 40mph the vibration is gone.. I'm extremely nervous and don't know what to do, I reset the trans and it shifted alittle smoother coming outta first gear but soon after started doing it again. Only very noticeable on uphills mostly and when I press the gas lightly, hard to tell when you take off rather normally

How many miles did you run on the other tires?

Your original setup had 12 revs per mile difference front to rear. I don't know what BMW considers "in spec". You want to keep the front to rear difference as close to 0 as possible to avoid drivetrain damage. Who sold you that wheel/tire package?

I basically created it myself. The setup I'm running now I hope should be better

Bad idea on AWD vehicles.
But it's not better: The difference between front and rear is still "5". Forget about vibration - you may damage your drivetrain and BMW won't (rightfully so) cover it. They even will give you flack for running on tires with too much difference in wear. Your setup is way beyond that.. |

I did some rough calculations here
The stock sized 275/40-20 and 315/35-20 are 728 and 728.5 mm in diameter respectively. Your current tire sizes at 265/35-22 and 295/30-22 are 744.3 and 735.8 mm respectively. You should be running a 305 rear tire, that would make the diameter 741.8. You speedo is going to be off though, you might want to do some actual calculations to see where you land in order to be as close to the 728mm diameter as possible. |

OE BMW tires are perfectly matched front to rear.
http://www.tirerack.com/tires/tires....fore%2010%2F10 If you stray from OE tires, you really need to look at the actual specs, revs per mile in particular. For a staggered 22" setup, the only tire combo that should be used is 285/30/22 front, and 335/25/22 rear - though I doubt you can put a 335 tire on a 10.5" wheel. If you're dead set on these wheels you may just look at running 285/30/22 on all four corners, which will give you a correct speedo reading and prevent any further drivetrain damage.

Ideal rim width for that size is 9.5-10.5".

I don't know I'm having problems per say I just feel the car different after taking off stocks. Odd vibrations throughout the rpm ranges 1-2.5k and strong vibrations at 20mph and 40mph. Also now I'm getting sounds of what seems like bad wheel bearings getting that WOO WOO sound while driving slow. Lol.. I feel like the cars health has gone downhill after installin the wheels. And if I change tires again this will be my third set and I just bought a complete brand new set! Too much money being invested in stupid tires, it's really pissing me off now. I knew all about the AWD and running correct sizes but I "figured" this wouldn't apply to an suv. Stupid move on my part.
