If you are not in a hurry the 2016 will be on sale in a few months, rumor has it they are dropping the 4.0 for 3.5 running Atkinsons cycle......so it should get a nice hp bump with a slight bump in tq yet still see much improved mpg...

Cheaper, yea, but I wouldn't say the prices will tank. Toyota trucks and SUV's hold their values insanely well (same with Honda Accord and Toyota Corolla). They are absolutely bullet proof (my 4Runner has I think 300k miles, with 8 different owners). So there's no reason the prices will all of a sudden fall off the cliff.

I do love the new one though. Spent all day looking at them online (yea, cared more about the new Tacoma than Ford GT ) and I could definitely see replacing my 4Runner with one. I just so wish they would offer a diesel engine like GM is. IMHO, trucks + diesel is the way to go.

My father just donated their 1998 4Runner with 333k on the ticker. Sad day since that was pretty much my first car but that thing was an absolute tank. Even on donation day it fired right up with no smoke or roughness.

My brother, the one with the 2014 Tacoma, just picked up a new 4Runner. I wouldn't call it pretty (unlike the 1998, which I still think is a great looking car) and it's comically lacking all competition in tech and comfort but he's hopeful he will keep it for 16 years, like the one we just sent packing.

From my understanding, all cars turn one year older in September making that the best time to buy a car? We basically start a new model year in Sep making dealers giving better deals to get rid of the past year models?

I picked up a new 2014 VW CC R-line as a DD in Sept. Sticker was $36,400 and I got it for $28k. There's no difference between the 2014 and 2015 so that should give you an idea. Granted VW is probably more concerned with moving units than Toyota but still, that's a bargain.

Awesome. I got a 97 4Runner myself. Bought it for $3k thinking it only had 157k miles, which would have made that the deal of the century (it's a V6, guy selling thought it was a 4 cyl).

Like a dumbass, I didn't check the Carfax, so when I looked, the last registration was something like 275k miles

That's the great thing about these cars. As long as Toyota didn't mess up their formula, it shouldn't have any problems at all driving around in 20 years. I like the new GMG Canyon, but how do you argue against a proven truck that been around for so long. Personally, I can definitely see myself getting a 6MT Tacoma int he future.

yeah that's why I'm hesitant about newcomers like GM and Chevy in this kind of market because they havent been able to knock the Tacoma off. Same thing about when GM introduced the Solstice as a competitor to the Miata and it didn't work then.

Actually I'm curious what the differences are between the Chevy Colorado and Canyon, besides just badge and price differences?

I've never sat in a Sierra so idk what difference exists between it and the Silverado, other than aesthetics. Is there any significant difference between the two?

There are not any significant differences. Aside from the exterior differences and the GMC getting a slightly more premium feel.

Canyon is going to be a nice truck when the Duramax diesel becomes available. Lots of torque and good mpg. It would definitely be my choice in this segment. It has the look of a full size truck. Others still look like mini trucks.

Sierra( and I believe Canyon, but don't quote me on that) uses real aluminum trim where Silverado( and Colorado) uses fake aluminum in the interior. Other than that it is mostly cosmetic, pricing, option packaging, etc ( with the full size SUV's, can only get the 6.2 liter V8 in the Denali's).

My brother has a 2013 Taco and absolutely loves it. He has the 6 cyl, TRD sport with a lift and a few other modifications and I must say, it is a damn good looking truck (that engine sounds terrible though). He's done some fairly serious off-roading in it and it's been bulletproof. He paid 37k new after the lift and was recently offered 31k from a dealership with 28k mi on it, so there's some proof about how well they hold their value. He has said recently, that if he was in the market now, he'd give the canyon/Colorado a serious look... And he's always interested in Wranglers, but he's ultimately a pickup guy. 100% recommended.

They are historically rust buckets, including be part of a major by back for frame rot issues. Hard to say if Toyota has actually fixed the rusting problem on the newer ones.

Depends on model. My 4runner doesn't have a spec of rust on the chassis. It's actually kinda ridiculous considering the mileage (and the number of wrecks it's been in haha )

They are nice. I just took one in on trade and it was gone quickly.

I'm a sales mgr at a Chevy dealer, the new colorado is pretty nice if you can get past the $$ and the trashy motor. Wish they stuck a 5.3 in it.
