X6 50 power versus X6M
looking to buy a X6 50i or X6M. Does anyone have the invoice price detail?
Also any thoughts on the X6 50i base versus the 50i with the power enhancement for $1550 versus the M version for +$13000? the X6 50 while very heavy at around 5300 pounds appears to have plenty of power The X6 is for my wife, she loves fast good looking cars. I myself am currently in the market for an M3 Last edited by bushman; 09-20-2009 at 07:44 AM.. |

If I were you, I would probably just order the X6 50i with performance upgrade (+40HP) and save the $13K. While the X6 M is an amazing vehicle it is probably overkill for your wife and I have the X6 50i and it plenty fast for its size and weight and with the extra 40HP it would be plenty of power and faster than most vehicles on the road.

For your wife??
Get her the X6 35i then and pocket a bunch of jing...I came from an 08 550i with 367 hp and am just fine with the 35i...And I've owned M3's etc.. Does the 50i have more hp and deeper growl? Heck yah.... But obviously value fits into some part of your buying decision and the 35i is plenty fast for a lot less $$$ Just a thought..

Thanks for the feedback. she is fixated on the 8. Can't blame her. We drove both and given the weight of the car a bigger engine is probably better. the x6m looks great, but costs a lot more. The plus 40 hp is probably the way we will go

Since you said "she loves fast good looking car" , I agree with shenard get her the 50i with the 40hp upgrade. This will be more than enough power. The X6M is a cool car but don't think it's worth the high price for the extra 60hp you would get. But then again some folks are into nameplates. my 2¢.

the X6 xDrive 50i for sure man. I drive my dads all the time, and that thing is so god damn fast, and its super loud, sounds WAY better than the X6 M.

I have driven them side by side and agree that the X6 50i exhaust sounds better. Much deeper of a growl. I would take the X6 M in a heartbeat over my 50i though!!

I wonder if a company like Akrapovic is going to develop an exhaust for this car and the X5M. Sure needs one by the sound of it (punt intended lol)!

It's a wonder we hear any hi performance sounds from a modern engine, considering turbo chargers and dual cats. They simply make mincemeat of the sounds waves.
No doubt it's true that when you cross the exhaust pulses to the opposite turbos, it acts to cancel the sound wave into a monotone. |

How much does the exhaust note really mean to people?
I admit I like a throaty V8 but would never pick a vehicle because of a noise it makes. After my last car (CLK63 Black) I am becoming less enamored with all that. The thing would alert everyone within a mile that you were on the way. Too much like a Harley mentality for me.

Would pulling the mid resonator on the right tube effect the pulses in the exhaust a throw a cell?! Not thread jacking, just wondering. I love the sound at idle, but beleive it or not it is rather quiet once going.
Get the 50i. |

i have bought the X6M over the 5.0 cuz when u are spending 100.. another 10% isnt much (i am talking a full load one of cuz) , imo , with faith on the M , even traded in the M3 DCT for the X6M , i missed the higher rev V8 but with a more powerful puch thats worth it , and when u or she driving down the road and see another X6 diving beside u ,what will u think ... what if i got the M ... or u think just another normal X6 , thats what in your mind i guess . i still have to wait for the break in period but already happy with it .
