20 vs. 22" Rims-Any Problems

I have an 09 X6 and purchased some staggered 22 inch aftermarket rims with BMW caps online (9.5 and 10.5). I was assured my existing stock tires would fit these rims but the tires are 20 inch and do not fit.

So, I have 2 choices, send back the 22s or buy new tires. I really like the new rims but have also read on this forum that there could be some negative effects of having larger rims. Does anyone here have any experience swapping out their rims from 20s to 22s. The most concern is that the larger rims would rub against the walls. That would not work for me. Help!!

You were told 20 inch tires would fit 22 inch rims? Really

The seller probably meant the wheels would fit your X6. There the right bolt pattern and offset. Either send the wheels back or buy tires.

Yes, I actually sent the tire measurements prior to buying them and they just made a mistake. They are willing to give me a refund but I love the rims...has anyone switched from 20s to 22s? Just am concerned about any problems if I invest in new tires...

The bigger question is are you going to be happy with the ride. If the rims come in 20s why not exchange them? While 22s look great the right will be much harsher and the risk of wheel damage greater.

Yes, the rims were on clearance and so I got a good deal which is the only reason I am considering keeping them. The same rims with caps will cost about $450 more...

switching from 20 to 22 is not a problem at all as long the tire sizes are in correct sizes!! it has to do with the offsets^^

hey op, I ride on 22s and the ride is not bad at all. those wide offset tire will feel like your car is hugging the road on corners. If you like the rims you picked up, purchase the tires that fit properly and enjoy the ride!

Thanks for the posts guys. I am still researching but am leaning towards returning the 22 rims as I can find them in 20s (they are staggered Ruff Racing 281s). Does anyone think that 22s are better than 20s for any reason?

the 22s will only make the x6 look more aggressive or (better) IMHO. The20s will make you "feel" the road less than the 22s of course, but the 22s don't make the ride bad at all. if you want to see the X6 on 22s, check out my pics, or plenty of other pics of people who went with 22s for that matter. either way, it is still an awesome car to look at, as well as drive.
