On my old 550 (2006), I drove it with AS and without AS back to back. YOU COULD NOT TELL THE DIFFERENCE IN STEERING FEEL. In test driving the X5 without Active Steering however, the steering was so stiff (and almost loose) that I could not imagine driving the car day to day and enjoying it. In test driving the X6 without Active Steering, it did not seem half as bad - still, nothing compares to driving the X6 with Active Steering. YES, the steering is easier to turn (the 550 was not like that) - however, it is very enjoyable and you still feel the road perfectly. You just turn the wheel a lot less at slow speeds (which is nice in a big vehicle like the X6 - it makes it feel smaller). It takes nothing away from the "BMW feel". Go drive a 5-series RWD if you want to experience steering without BMW feel. I'm positive if dealers were able to have X5s and X6s in stock with Active Steering (they can't) more people would order it. It is that good of an option.

Because of a last minute glitch, My wife was not able to do the pick up in Germany with me. Either she will pick up the cat t te dealership w/me or we'll casually walk over to Long term Parking and she will see the new ride. Both would work.. but now that I think about it... I actually prefer the second... so lets see if they get me the goods earlier. @ Doug- you should have AS tattoed on your chest! Looking forward to trying it out. One question... how can the steering be both stiff and loose? Thanks! Dale

Let me clarify non AS X5 steering. It is hard to turn and imprecise. At least for me it was. I really noticed it at the performance center - so maybe those trucks were just completely beat, but in regular driving (test drives) it was very difficult to turn the wheel. As noted, my experience with non AS X6s was NOT similar.

We even are considering making it a 50i instead of the 35i I originally ordered. However, I am at the moment freaking out that someone could slide into "my" car and even possibly the PCD date I have now, without the wait I've had. Last edited by Love_My_X6; 05-14-2012 at 07:48 PM.. |

Just went to from Order Documented to Production Begins
I guess the wait is now 2-3 weeks?
I got a little annoyed because I did not see the Active Steering listed! I called up the dealership and they printed out the Vehicle Inquiry: Design/MSRP and faxed it to me. It had all options that I wanted listed. Anyone else have this happen? The Design MSRP had my VIN & Production Number. After hearing from "Love_My_X6" I am a little nervous. I am now looking forward to AS...

Got my Vert Serviced. Before pick up, I stopped by the show room to see the Black on Oyster X6 50i. Three seats in the back. Observations:
The headroom in the back is very limited... particularly the center. I am 5'11" and it was a little uncomfortable to sit erect! If I lounged or slouched back with my head against the head rest, it was cool. I could not image any of my 6'3" friends being all that comfortable in the back.. I read about it.. but it was still suprising. - Car had the fresh MStyle rims. Love the way that looks.. I was hoping to see the base package rims that I got (need the all weather with baby on the way) - LED lights were not there... so unfortunately I could not see those either - Love the new BMW smell - The Black back of the front seats really stood out with the Oyster. I am glad I got the Saddle as the contrast will not be as drastic. -The "grey" ceiling was darker than expected... didn't really stand out. The car was fresh... It was almost like the color didn't matter... it is a beautiful ride.

http://www.autotrader.com/cars-for-s...22295923&Log=0 Hmm... I preferred the brochure color to this one... but.. a las... it is what it is. Not sure why BMW would photoshop the color?? Attachment 698528 Attachment 698529 The Saddle will still look good with this.

When I get mine next week I will take some photos in different lighting. This car is actually how I was expecting it to look in bright sunlight. I also think the photo darkens it as the "bright" spot that you see where the sun hits it will move as your view changes. I think it will look more like the BMW image in low light. I am loving the look. |

I found another set of actual photos... This from a dealer in FL. Partly cloudy and different photographer have the color still dark but less black.
http://www.cars.com/go/search/detail...c&aff=national If I had an extra 10-15K this would have been sweet! midnight blue 50i with M-sport. |
