BMW Performance Kit + HID angel eyes

Hey Guys, Just collected the X6 from the dealer after having the BMW performance kit fitted. I ordered it fully painted from Germany then fitted by the dealer.

I have been trying different bulbs and LED's in the halo's but they were just not bright enough in the daytime. So I ordered a HID kit from Alex @ Alpine in the US. I took my time fitting the kit, It took me about an hour at the most. All straight forward, and the results are better than I expected. They look amazing! Super white and super bright even in the daylight. The photo doesn't do them justice.

What do you think?

Springs and Wheels are next on the list

Hi Danny,

The car looks great. Like the performance upgrade and the HID kit. I too have been trying various bulbs, currently have the PIAA but as with you I don't think they're bright enough. Having seen yours and on hearing that the install was straightforward I have emailed Alex for a price.

What springs and wheels are you looking at?

Thanks Mark,

Once you see the HID's it makes the LED's look pathetic in comparison! It totally transforms the look of the car. The kit took about 2 weeks from LA, it's very high quality. If it wasn't I wouldn't have even bothered fitting it to my car. I took the power and the ground from the jump starter posts and hid all the cables out of sight. I can take some photos to show how I did it if it helps you out.

I also fitted the Performance steering wheel and pedals.

H&R spings and quite like the BMW performance wheels and VRS V-105

Cheers Danny

Hi Danny

Last night I ordered the kit from Alex and begin the eager wait to get them and fit them. It would be great if you could show some photos of your fitting. The less intrusive the better and it sounds like you have pretty much nothing showing.

Choice of wheels sound good, I bought the 21' 215's but the seller was dodgy to say the least so they went back. Moral of the story... if it's too good to be true then it is! I bought them from ebay sold as 4 BMW X6 wheels taken off my X6, hardly used etc etc. When they arrived two were scuffed and three were rear wheels and one front!! Anyway, after a long drawn out process they went back and now I am looking again for the best to suit my X6. I have a space grey with Y spokes so not in too much of a rush to change as I kinda like them. There was a member who posted on here his X6 with 22" wheels that look like the Y spoke, but make it look mean.

I'm also considering a lightish tint to the rear and side windows! Do you have any tinting, I can't tell from the photo?

Mark

I knew the exact wheels you were talking about! Yes they do look nice. I'll take some photos of my install for you. I'm sure Alex told you you will need the grommets fitted to the kit? You have to make a small hole in the headlamp bulb cover for the cables to pass through. Really easy to do and you can get spares from BMW if you need to put back to stock.

I've not done any tint, not sure I will on this car.

I've had the engine remapped (35d) 345bhp 710nm

Yes, Alex mentioned the holes in the headlamp covers, the photos will be really helpful thanks. The few times that I pass BMW's with the bright halos I've been getting frustrated but hopefully not for long!

I too have the 35d and have the p-tronic plug in which I have found makes a massive difference in torque and smoother when pulling off. Quoted figures are With P-Tronic 270KW 367BHP 717NM.

Forgot to say thinking about changing the rear exhaust to the square 5.0i and keeping a watchful eye out for a CIC unit for sat nav etc. The new idrive 2010/11 idrive is far superior to the one I have and I've seen on other forums it is possible to upgrade (despite what BMW say).

Look forward to the photos. Thanks again for you help and advice.

Very nice...That just confirms what I was thinking that lighter colors bring out the best of the performance kit. Check out my X6 here:

Dannym, any chance of more pics? I love the HID's and the kit is amazing. What have you done with the side steps?

More pics of the HID install or the performance kit? The side steps are part of the kit, or do you mean do I still have the aluminium ones that where removed?

There is a guy in Poland called Patrys that has been putting together retrofit kits for E90's. He does all the coding needed to set it all up over the Internet while your hooked up to the car. I've contacted him and he is working on a kit for our cars which will be ready in about 2 weeks!!

I think this could be the next mod!

Very intersted in both the HID DRL's and your performance kit as I am planning to do the same. I have side steps and I can't make out from your picture what the side of your car is like. I have 5.0i exhaust tips and IMHO they change the car for the better. Thanks in advance!

I'll take some photos of the HID install today. I've attached some photos of the performance side steps and the rear bumper.

Cheers
