Map lights

I have a question about the "map" lights in the X5 located in the front overhead console. Is there supposed to be a plastic cover over the individual lights?

I ask because I have a 2012 X5 and the main overhead light has a plastic cover but not the individual reading lights (driver side and passenger side). Can you guys go check your X5's and tell me that I'm not crazy?
