Real world performance differences--Velos Tune on X5 50i

I got my X5 back a couple of weeks ago from the N63 service work. My Velos tune was cleared, I assume due to the fuel injector calibration sequence.

While I wait for Velos to rework their magic on the new stock map I extracted earlier in the week, the current state provided a nice opportunity to do some 0-60 runs in stock from, and compare to the 0-60 runs I did just a few days before the car went in for the service. Most enviornmentals were the same, same--same location, roughly the same temp/humidity:

The specs:

2013 X5 50i (base)
Wheels/Tires: 18" 210's, Michelin Latitude Alpin, 255-55-18 (non-runflat)
Ambient temps: Mid-Teens (F), low humidity

The measure:

P3Cars Vidi (on-board, fed from vehicle's speedo feed)

The setup/launch:

Traction control disabled
Shifter in S (auto shift)
Brake torque to about 2500 RPM, release brakes, floor throttle

The results (0-60):

Velos Tune (best): 4.68
Stock (best): 5.50

4.64 secs on my BMS Stage 1 plug in.

Stage 2 yet to be installed

Just for comparison since you're one of the few Velos users to post any real performance data.

Steve--how are you launching/shifting on your times? I can tell there's another tenth or two to be had with the right manual shift, but I can't seem to get the shift points down, and I'm not estimating the gap well between hitting the lever and the trans actually shifting.

Manuals are so much easier, and much more fun for this kind of thing.

It still amazes me though, that my best 0-60 on my 3300lb E36 M3 (with tune and intake) was 5.2, and my 5000lb SUV beats that by at least 1/2 a second.

Any of you have any quarter mile times or trap speeds? I can't wait to get my studded snow tires off. Bring on the spring!

Pretty much the same as you. I am using a GTech meter but it's very consistent. Brake stand to 2500-3000 and then let go and have it shift for you.

I have never done a quarter mile time but I would expect it to be up there with the F15 50i which one magazine tested in the high 12s. In all honesty, anything under 13.5 would be great.

I'm going to do a few runs when it gets a bit warmer and before I put in Terry's Stage 2 beta.

I'm going to try to get mine to NTR early in the season this year. Last year, it rained every street night that I was in town.

Weather permitting, I'll be at the 3/29 test and tune:

I'm honestly of mixed feelings about running the 1/4 with the snows or the summer 333 wheels. The snows, being non-RFT and much smaller wheels, have a LOT less unsprung and rotational weight, so might turn in better 1/2 mile times.

It looks like for a stage 1 setup, the BMW is the way to go compared to to the Velos tune. With the BMS system, the N63 campaign wouldn't impact it.

Steve, how long did it take to install?
