I haven't had much time to play with it, so I'm running the "Original Car" setup, which works flawlessly through the idrive. The new touchscreen display looks exactly like BMW's 2017 models and I feel like it significantly updated my interior. I was intrigued by all the features, including Wi-Fi, screen mirroring, video interfaces, etc... But even if it did none of these things, I would have bought it just for the improved aesthetics!

For Apple, yes. For Android, I can connect and then the touchscreen of the stereo controls the touchscreen on the phone from what I've seen on videos. If that's the case, I'm sure I'll find myself mirroring my phone, putting it into the cupholder and doing everything via the stereo from playing music to Waze, etc

I love how all these people are coming outta the woodworks with this stereo! So I bought one for my E70 and the GF's E61. I was able to work a deal with a free backup camera for the GF's car and two free GPS splitters. I was going to get the GF the DVR setup as well, but it's $150...has anyone else gotten it or tried something different? I just found this on eBay, I like that it's dual camera, but I'm not certain if it'll work. I've asked AVIN to refund the camera price, and on the chance it doesn't work, looks like I'll be back to buying their camera and paying shipping as my learning lesson.

I agree tethering is a way to go as well, I just have to check with Sprint to see if I've got unlimited tethering. If not, I'll do MirrorLink and then just control my phone via the screen. I've watched videos and seems easy enough, but I noticed the touchscreen doesn't control iPhones.
No no, I'm talking about a DVR/dashcam setup. I've got a Blackvue 550 in mine, got it for around $300, but I'm looking for one for the GF's car. AVIN sells theirs for $150, but it's only front view vs that one I linked being $38 for front and rearview.

No lol. I don't want to hook the Blackvue to the AVIN stereo. I don't wanna buy another $300 Blackvue for the GF's car either though.
AVIN sells their own $150 camera that connects to the AVIN, I'm just asking if I anyone else has the AVIN DVR/dashcam and/or if someone has tried a different DVR/dashcam like the $38 eBay one. $150 for only front view - https://avinusa.com/dvr-camera-720.html $38 for front and rear view - https://www.ebay.com/itm/-/152712898105? I'm just trying to find out if I can use another USB based DVR/dashcam besides the one from AVIN.

what is the 'Original Car' setup? Does it mean the Avin unit just acts as a display? while all the original functions of CIC remain? I am interested in this unit but don't want to loose the sounds quality when I play my music, Bluetooth quality, etc. It would work for me if I could only upgrade the display but I thought after the upgrade we loose the functions mentioned above. can you please comment? thanks!

I also bought one for my wife's X3 that didn't have navigation or a backup camera from the factory... X3 problem solved!

I am getting it then too! I went to the Avin web site and there are many additional things to purchase. For sure GPS antenna splitter, what else makes sense to buy right away? Aux splitter? Front camera? What about OBD2 adapter - is it useful? anything else is a 'must' have from their list? I am not really keen on playing videos, etc - just use google maps in andorid mode and the rest in the 'original car' mode.. Last edited by gsnake; 12-10-2017 at 12:25 AM.. |

i am very happy with OE sound, bluetooth. I do want the bigger screen (especially for backup camera) and of course android apps - like google maps or Here Maps. By the way - will HUD work? I understand it will not work with Android but will it show my speed at least as done today? And can I listen to my mp3s using Original Multimedia while using google maps on android (probably yes but I just want to make 100% sure ) |

I agree with you - it is already worth the money just as a larger better resolution screen! |

I'm quite disappointed that AVIN advertises themselves as being in CA but they have shown they don't stock anything as all tracking information is ccoming from Hong Kong :/ Nothing like paying a middle man. I'll post my results after I get both systems installed.

Does avin have sales like this often? I really want one of these but I literally just bought my car Friday night. The mod account is a little empty at the moment haha

Crazy how this thread is pretty active; I'm glad posting this is answering questions for everyone and others to continue reinterizing what they've said before hahaha
GPS splitter after reading what others have said I'd say is a NEED if you have the OEM navigation. As mentioned, I'd say everything else is pretty much an option and of course use your OEM BT. I've heard the quality is better, and if you don't have OEM BT then you really aren't missing out on anything but only gaining Discount wise I don't believe I've seen this unit go on any sale until recently, maybe someone else can chime in
