What Would You Do?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!

Two Days ago, my mother picked up a 2008 X5 3.0si with 4 miles on it. When I pulled up to my house, it was backed in and I am facing the front of the car. My father comes outside and turns on the car and the passenger side fog light is on (the switch inside the car is not turned on). I turn the switch on and they both come on and turn the switch off and the one fog light stays on still WTF. Next, my father turns the car off, turns it back on and the RPM's start jumping from 500 to 2000, back and forth! So yesterday, my mom takes the car to work and she breaks down, the car just stalls out and when turned on stalls out again!!!!!!!!!!!!!!(40 miles on the car at this point!!!) What would you guys do or say to bmw at this point? On top of that, the tow truck driver tried to make my mom go with him to drop the car off at the stealership instead of just dropping the damn key into the key slot! So what would you guys say to BMW? would you request anything?

I would tell them what happened and ask them to fix it under warranty. They should provide her with a loaner of comparable "status." But they are not going to give her a new one, it's way to early to start screaming "lemon," and they are not going to buy her a condo on the beach (somewhere nice, like say, Delray Beach, FL). Sorry to break the news to you, but that's the way it is right now.

That said, it's definitely enough for your parents to give their BMW dealer an earful and escalate to BMWNA if necessary. I think they should let BMW try to fix the problem first and then push for a trade or rebuy if problems persists. Sometimes, shit just happens.

Not necessarily... My neighbor had a 2 year old S550 that he was driving down I-95 in Miami. He's in the fast lane and all of a sudden the car just shuts off completely. He was able to coast it to the right side, but he had lost power steering so it was hard to control. He then had to wait 2 hours for MB roadside assistance to come. When they did they had brought the wrong tow truck, so he had to wait some more. He raised such a shit at the dealership that Mercedes flew in the regional director to take care of things. They kept apologizing and they told him he could have his pick of any car on the lot that was of equal or lesser value to the new price he paid for the S550. He now has a brand new CL550.

And that's just one of the differences between a $50K BMW SAV and a $100K Mercedes Benz (prices are, of course, approximate). I'd be wiling to bet that "mom's" BMW dealer and BMWNA will not bend over backward like Mercedes did. But, as you point out, there are always exceptions...

thats how it should be done, I would be risking my life on the freeway if the car just shut down on me, the dealership should be kissin your behind...If they give you a hard time, ask them to take a family trip in your X5 and see what they say

A properly optioned X5 is going to set you back more than 50k.

If it is as leased car, who cares, tell em to fix it and give you a loaner in the meantime and let someone else deal with the car as a 'CPO'

if it is a keeper definitely raise hell, get it all documented, and push for a new one if other issues pop up
