This is my first bmw with remote keyless and I am concern about security. I read a few articles that says remote keyless makes it easy to steal a bmw.
What's do folks think about it ?
Do I need to install a different or additional security system ?

Beautiful, very classy color combo. Excellent build as well - well done!

You will not be disappointed! But you already know this because the X6 is awesome in any form, and the ///M just multiplies the awesomeness.

My X6M is also my 2nd X6.

Enjoy in good health.

"Remote keyless entry" - do you mean Comfort Access?

I have not read about any issues here in the states and let's be honest, if they want your truck, they are going to get it. If you have never had this option (assuming we are talking the same option) then you don't know what you have been missing - but you will soon!

Agreed.

I have seen some videos on here a while ago with thefts via the odbc port, where with elaborate software and a blank key, the thieves simply programmed the blank and drove the car away. That was a 1M coupe I think, without Comfort Access, and if I recall correctly, it was in the UK where this took place. I wouldn't worry about it because if the car will get stolen it will get stolen. That is what insurance is for.

Btw at least for 2013, but others can chime in for previous years, the X6M comes standard with a car alarm, so I don't think getting a second one will make it any safer against theft.

Also in general I would think a car alarm might deter petty thieves, but not those sophisticated enough to be able to program a blank key and/or intercept and emulate wireless RFID signals to start the car, which is how the remote entry (Comfort Access) works.

Yes this is what I was talking about, the articles made it sound like it was an everyday occurrence and growing. It suggested that it was easy for any petty thief to get the device off the internet and do this. I'm not going to worry.

Thanks

I think that is a smart move. If this was happening on a regular basis, I suspect we would hear about it here in the states and yet another recall would be issued.

PS - that option rocks. Since I had it in my 2006 550, I vowed to never own a car without it.

As a follow up I was searching the forum for something else and came across this thread, it is about 3 years old but guess I'm not the first one to get concerned. Their testing was even more disturbing hopefully BMW has addressed the issue by now. I would like to ask BMW but don't know where to send my query.
