E70 Subwoofer Options?
I did some searching around but didn't find much on this. What are the options for a subwoofer in the E70? From what I can tell, it looks like the JL Stealthbox is the best option for something that is hidden? Doesn't appear that BSW offers anything. Also, is it fairly easy to install one in an E70? It's been over 15 years since I've done anything to my car audio, but I'd really like to add some bass to my E70 when it gets here next week. I'm sure having the battery in the rear helps a ton, as I remember that was the hardest part of the installation. Might just have a "professional" (pimply faced punk kid most likely) do it.
EDIT: I should probably add that I'm not really a basshead, and would want something with a relatively small footprint. |

Why not a custom fiberglassed box that molds to the contours of your interior?
I've toyed with that idea in the passenger side cubby in the trunk. It could easily fit up to a 10" sub.

the trunk is big i just use a dual 12" box. if i need trunk space i just unplug and the amp staying in the cubby. wiring is pretty easy. you just need a line-out converter. i plugged into the 2 subs that are underneath the seats. my friend did the custom fiberglass in the cubby in his 1 series. i thought about it, but didnt seem worth the trouble or cost of materials (about 150-200 plus a few hours of using messy chemicals) i also think the subbox would need to have more volume so the fibrglass would jutt out into the trunk and not be flush, dont think an obstacle at the rear part of the trunk is a good idea you could sort of take a page out of stealthbox's book, and just remove the bettery cover panel, and without the little compartment that the tray makes to the right of the battery, you prob could just shove a upward firing 10" sub in a square box underneath the trunk floor. I don't think I'm handy enough to create my own fiberglass box. It would need to be pre made.
That's not a terrible idea of just hiding the amp, having a box in that area, and taking it out when needed. Probably saves some money and allows for more boom too. Any recommendations for a cost-effective amp to pair with a Stealthbox? I think that's probably going to be the smartest move for me. Do they include idiot-proof instructions with those, or can anyone point me to a link? I'm sure I could figure it out but some direction wouldn't hurt. As I understand, I'd need to splice into the current wiring and add a high-low? |

Interested in options as well, I'd prefer under the front seats, I use the Spare tire area for transporting my hand guns when I go to the range. and while that ear area next to the battery is nice, I like to keep a cargo liner in there and transport things like I do on a regular basis..Any options?

I assume with the premium stereo there are two subs under the front seats already? Premium stereo includes that in my 5er, I assume the same for my upcoming X5 with premium. Problem is, you can hardly tell they even exist, not much output. Seems like a waste for them to even go to the trouble to put them there as they're pretty weak.

Do you have the "Top Hifi" system? If so, will have some fun interfacing with with the audio system. "Technic" on this forum/E90 has created a plug and play harness for interfacing with the amp outputs to the speaker that you can then get a signal from. The JL audio enclosure is the easiest solution I have found. Kicker and RF make nice little compact mono, D-class (cool running) amps with all the eq'ing you'd ever need to integrate the sub with the rest of the car.

The price of the Stealthbox is about what I spent for my custom fiberglass sub box and 2-8" subs. That JL system is pretty nice IMO. Just need a solid mono amp, and how to interface with the factory radio...

This is my other car 400+HP car. Done by a shop, I think closed a couple months ago in Everett. Though recently went to Ballard Custom Audio, and really like that crew of folks. Hardwired a Passport into the e70 for little cost.
Within it, this: The enclosure was about $375 I think, the subs were <$100 a piece. The JL box comes with a sub, and is <$600 online.
