Technical Campaign Crankcase Connecting Line
So I got another email for a recall on my ride. I just had all the injectors replaced from the previous recall only last month. Here are the details but its for the crankcase connecting line.
Product Technical Campaign Our records indicate that your BMW has an outstanding technical campaign to check and replace the crankcase connecting line. Your attention to this important safety issue is greatly appreciated. How does this affect you? The connection line is not robust enough to last throughout the service life of the vehicle, and may start to leak. Fault code memory entries may be stored and rough idling speed may occur because of surplus air that has been drawn in. |

Hello, long time luker here. Your post interested me because my X5M is in for the fuel injector recall. I was advised my truck would need all the crankcase lines because all were brittle and/or leaking (x5 items to the tune of about $1800 bucks incl labor and parts[!]). After reading your post I called my SA to find out if he'd recevied anything about the recall and he could find nothing for my car. So, yeah. Um gonna get got for the entire cost of labor and parts.
So, I've inquired about the injector recall at least three times over the past year and my VIN only this week produced any reference to the campaign for the Airbags, Fuel Pumps, and Injectors while others received notification a year earlier it seems (Yeah, I'll get the notification about the Connecting Line immediately after I've paid). Can't win FYI: After dealing with this for the last couple of days my thoughts are that even if your connector is the only part noted in the recall it may be worthwhile to pay for and change out all the venting related to the crankcase including the left and right bank vent lines and filtered airducts for both sides, as well. Labor for just replacing the vent line is about $1K USD so bulk of the labor cost should be covered in your recall but the additional parts will cost about 600-800 depending on where you purchase. I found all parts including the connector for $615. Hope that helps. |

Interesting, thanks for the heads up I will definitely mention it to them to at check the other lines or get a price for the parts. I would for sure save on the labor if I have to do this some time in the future, too bad they can't just be part of the recall though.

All it says is: Code 118116. I know the defect code on the official dealer portal is 0011170400.

Mine just had a breather tube replaced so I wondered if this was the same part. Turns out it is:
The updated part comes with some insulation to prevent the issue from happening again. Parts ordered but it can wait given I have a new older one installed for now. Thanks again for the heads-up. |

Bump as I'm trying to avoid paying for these before BMW finally steps up. It took almost two months after I had my injectors replaced to have BMW finally admit the N63 issues are also S63 issues, but not after I'd already spent $1000 replacing them myself and not being reimbursed. Granted all these PCV lines are like $300 in parts to replace them all, but BMW knows of the issue, so I don't wanna wait again.

I waited to long to try to replace these myself...eventually ruptured so bad that got extremely rough idle, 4 cylinders misfiring, and "engine malfunction/reduced power". Had to bring to dealer for diagnosis and repair....$1,700 after parts, tax, and labor had all crank case hoses/filtered air ducts replaced.
Hopefully something will come out of this and I could be refunded.... |

I believe so. The second code is what the dealer sees on their BMW system. One of them should work.

Okay I'll give them a call and see what they say. I wonder if this is a new campaign or if it would have been addressed during the N63 campaign that I had done a few months ago.

They did mine this week, took about 45 minutes. The mechanic told me the new parts look just like the old parts that were replaced.

My filtered air ducts were weeping oil from the day I bought the truck, then broke during removal due to being so brittle. The connecting line had a crack that wasn't visible from the bottom, I just happen to notice oil dripping down the bridge it sits on. I've yet to finish both vent pipes and vacuum lines. Point being is that the damage isn't always visible, but it seems it's best to be proactive and replace them at intervals of like 50K just to be sure.
