Thinking about an X5D
I own a 335d That is getting tuned right now, Cant wait!!
Now we are thinking about getting an X5 with the 3 liter I6 (m57 I believe) from there we would do a CBU clean and tune it the same as the 335d with a new exaust etc. I am looking for an X5 with a third row also! Is there a package I should be looking for, also what year did the third row option become available? Bonus question... Is there a best year of an x5d for tuneability? |

You can get the Sport Package with the 35d, but not the M Sport Package. And yes, you should look for one with the Sport Package No best year for tenability, it's the same M57 engine regardless of year. Edit - this one might have more miles than you want, but it's modded perfectly with some nice upgrades, if you're into that stuff. http://www.xbimmers.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1312125 Last edited by jiggz; 10-12-2016 at 03:25 PM.. |

The power trains are slightly different between years. The earlier model diesels were single turbo while later models went to twin turbo. I would stick with 2011 or newer as there are a lot more improvements beyond just aesthetics.

Are there major changes between 2010 and 2011 in the powertrain? I'm looking at these and the 2010 model seem like a steal compared to the 2012! Or is that just more depreciation? |

With that said, a lot of what you're seeing is the model year difference. For the past few years, it seems like each model year newer commands another 5-7K, based on those I look at. |

I'm looking for one and there's huge differences in prices between a 2010 and a CPO 2012 locally. Like $10,000 -$20,000 at times. Is a 2012 CPO really worth that kind of premium? |

2009 - 2013 E70 diesels are all the same M57 twin turbo engine. The 2009 had CCC idrive but included Adaptive Drive with the sport package. 2010+ AD was a stand alone $3500 option and thus it is very rare. In general, major options such as 3rd row are easier to find in earlier models rather than later ones.

Anyhow, yes it's definitely possible to see that big of a difference. I wouldn't compare just the model year, but obviously miles, condition, and then you've got to compare our their configured with packages and options. One that's loaded up will bring a lot more than a stripped down version. If you've got VINs, post 'em up and we can compare. I would at least get a 2011 so you get the cosmetic LCI updates. |

Lots of the 07-09 V8s have AD. There are some issues but I don't think they are common. A few of the posts with issues were from people who lived on bumpy dirt roads. Drive one first and see if you like it.

This one looks clean for sure, but it's pretty low on packages/options. That may not matter to you, but just noting there's a lot of other stuff available. |

Also, have you seen the 3rd row? I wanted one until I had my 10 year old try to sit back there and he did not fit.
Here is a cheap base model if you just want something to mod. https://jacksonville.craigslist.org/cto/5858740200.html Diesels sell for more on the west coast. I lived in Sacramento and was shopping 2 years ago. Ended up buying back east as there is less demand. Last edited by smass; 11-03-2016 at 04:48 PM.. |

They seem to be highest up in the Pacific Northwest. I was thinking of Texas maybe to avoid the rust. Wow, that is dirt cheap. Any idea on how long the engines/trans are going to last on these? I know I'll be replaces other bits here and there. Last edited by 3tekcorps; 11-03-2016 at 06:45 PM.. |

I hate to put this in writing here, but I was about to buy a new Subaru Forester. I was sitting there at the dealership and just couldn't do it. I totally insulted the sales lady and left. |

Do you have details on this? Is there a major reason to avoid the 2009/2010 model that's documented? Just from a mechanical point of view?
