Gixxer's 35d

About a month ago I bought this 2010 X5 35d for my wife's daily duties. It's a one owner vehicle, but the interior is the best part; It already has sport seats and sport steering wheel. Everything is mostly black except for the leather surfaces, which are dark carmel colored. This is actually my favorite interior. I keep teasing my wife and telling her that I'm going to swap her interior for the X5M interior when she's not looking....

Here's what it looked like when it first arrived;

[

....AND what it looks like like today after a few quick mods and a detail.

It doesn't need brakes, so I guess the X5M big brake kit I have on standby is out, but I've already started upgrading it with a few other mods.... 22" M style brushed gunmetal wheels, OEM fender flares, Weisslicht LEDs and Black grills.
the 19" wheels, non-fender flares, front plate holder and silly looking mudflaps had to go

I have also given thought about painting the bumpers, flares and sideskirts bodycolored (Think M Sport), but haven't decided yet. I will most likely do the H&R 1.2s, but I'm not planning on going nuts on this one like I did on the X5M. The cool thing is that I can share things between the them, like the OEM roof racks and different wheels!!!

You might recognize the wheels that were donated from my buddy's X5M.
- the photo of his car below will also give you (sort of) an idea of what the 35d would look like with body-colored bumper and trim pieces with the same wheels

Looking much better - though it now looks like you need 2 sets of LED tails

The black bumpers on the pre-LCI are a bit of an eyesore, but instead of painting them, IMO the painted aero kit greatly enhances the look w/o painting all those body parts. That, tint to match front windows, and painted front reflectors, and I'd call it good for the wife's DD.

Is the interior Tobacco?

Nice! Great choice of a car, as being a 2010, I'm sure you got a great deal.

I'm in the minority a d think that the 19 OEMs look just fine. Then again, I bought my D for wife's DD duties and family car, so everything OEM is fine for me. The 22s looks awesome nevertheless.

Here's what a body matched painted bumper of a pre-LCI would look like:
http://www.xbimmers.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1179096

On his gray car, it's much needed. But black contrasts well with white so well, so I'd leave it as is. It's a toss up IMO

Well maybe one set of tails... The 35d has too many other clues that scream Pre-LCI, but the X5M could totally pull it off
I love the Tobacco interior... I think it's my favorite of all interiors.

Yes sir! I think I will eventually paint the trims body colored. I've seen a few and they look awesome.

I could have plastidipped the 19" in black and she would have been happy, but I love the sporty stance of 20 or 22" wheels... I nearly went with 214s, but these happen to work out to a better deal

that car looks nice with painted trims too. The black trims are nice, but my wife and I both agree that we like the body-colored pieces better. It's a cleaner look and will look more like an Msport with the wheels.

I think it's beginning to look like it might go that way.

You may want to consider just getting an Aero kit and painting it white. Leave the bumpers black... Here's what my old 4.8i looked like... Also note the LCI tails

I am not a fan of the aero kit.
Unless it is a darker colored vehicle, the aero kit disrupts the flow and makes the appearance too busy; Painted trim looks cleaner to me.
+ The upgraded models always seem to have painted trim

...anyway, I plan to lower it before I make a final decision on painted trim vs. black trim.

Can anyone confirm whether this is 1.2" or 2.0" self-leveling springs?

-Thanks!

^ They are the 1.2s.... Same model number that is on my X5M, the color is what confused me. These are black and the ones on the X5M were blue.
Go figure!

I traded my running boards for side skirts and lowered it on the 1.2s. Although it looks a lot better, I feel that color matching the trim is inevitable

It looked like quite a bit of triming/modding was done to make the skirts fit to the running boards. Am interested in doing this as well. Post up some pics when you have them done!
