2010 35d shifting problems

when the car is cold it shifts at higher rpm. it shifts from 1 to 2 at 2500 rpm and 2 to 3 at 2500 rpm. when its warmed up its shifts normally at 1600rpm. another thing is when i drive up hills sometimes it'll downshift and wont shift until it reaches 2500rpm. any ideas why its doing this? i took it in for service and they reprogrammed the transmission but i still have the problem.

Mine does the same. It's annoying, but I've learned to live with it.

If its normal, does the shifting feel herky-jerky?

Good to hear that. I recognized that with my X5d too and was already scared.

My wife's old X3 did the same thing but even worse and was fine when warm..
Software update fixed it for the X3

If you roll down the windows and hear some noise when you move then your transmission needs to be replaced. If it only happens when your going up hill and downhill then its normal to downshift when your going up or down car simply wants more power to go up the hill ..and when your going down it will need to down shift so it can have more break force.

just make sure your transmission makes no noise when its moving if it does then you better take it to the dealer before it completely breaks apart
