Recommended Extended Warranty

Looking at purchasing a used 12 or 13 X5 50i, and would like to purchase a warranty. Clearly more are garbage than good, so figured I'd see who's had good experiences considering the many issues that plaque the 50.

And yes, I've owned over 10 V8 BMWs, only motor I will buy. Had a 2011 X5 50 a few years back, it was under factory warranty and had zero issues. Currently driving a F10 550, just miss the X5 comfort.

thanks

Whichever you choose, be sure it is an EXCLUSIONARY warranty. That way, the company is required to spell out exactly what is NOT covered so you should have no surprises come claim time.

I’d ask your bmw service advisor about their success with 3rd party warranties. They’ll say which ones pay up and they can work with.

It’s a gamble on extended warrranties if they will save you money. In general the cost of the warranty will exceed the likely repairs you’ll receive. Your better off saving the money as a repair fund and paying an Indy to do the work,p.

My experience has been, I’ve purchased an autonation gold warranty on My X5M and it has nearly paid for itself in 8 months. What’s most fascinating to me is the insurance negotiates about a 50% price reduction on repairs as compared to what you as a poor schmo would pay at the dealer. This is the only car I have ever purchased an extended warranty for, and I’m glad in this case I purchased the warranty. I also do not regret skipping it on other cars. Only you’ll know if you have a maintenance queen. Mine has fixed oil, leaks and and replaced a bad alternator.

Route 66, bmw, automation, carmax, many credit unions extended warranties have a good reputation. Personally the 50i in the older cars had a poor reputation for reliability and I would consider an extended warranty if you plan to keep it beyond the factory warranty. You will need valve stem seals at around 70k on a 50i

thanks for the input "Thecastle" all the BMW's i've owned, and i've never messed with extended warranties. However long list of issues with the V8 motors now makes me nervous. I found one X5 i really wanted to buy, however the valve seals where in need of replacing. Figure warranty is a must, as it more than pays for itself on just the valve seals.
One of the two shops i use recommended Route 66. However, they no longer offer their premier coverage on all X's and the 7 series. So on the X5 the max payout for the life of the warranty is $3k.

I recently purchased the CNA Exclusionary warranty. Haven't had to use it yet, but it came recommended from another trusted forum member on here.
