2013 X5....should i buy it?
Hi,
I've been following this forum for a while and decided to get a used X5. I was researching for a month and came across this http://www.truckcityford.com/details...ZV4C56D0B10419 Can someone advise if it is a good deal? Do you guys see anything out of the ordinary with this car? The carfax report says one owner, but it also says it was a CPO. SInce it is CPO'd after 1/2014, i am assuming it wont carry over. Thanks. |

You should call BMWNA or a local dealer with the last 7 of the VIN and confirm it has CPO - some dealers will divulge this info, some won't. Either way I think it's priced pretty well. There's currently 22 2013 xDrive35i M Sports on BMWUSA, and while most are CPO'd, most are also mid to high 40's. Based on that, this one at a $40,750 is priced well. If it is CPO'd, really good deal. Great color combo - you rarely see Silver over Cinnamon. I ran the VIN through a decoder for you, here's the factory specs - Titanium Silver/Cinnamon/Bamboo interior trim - build date 8/23/2012 M Sport Package w/ optional 20 inch wheels (style 333M) Convenience Package Technology Package (auto high beams, side-view camera, HUD) Premium Sound Package BMW Apps It's got most of the essential packages, though keep in mind there's still quite a few other packages and options that were available. Some are quite rare though. Let us know what happens Last edited by jiggz; 07-08-2015 at 02:44 PM.. |

The CPO will carry over however based on my conversation with BMW the other day they said it would be limited.
BTW if you haven't sit in the multi-contoured seats on an X5 is highly recommend doing so. I find that they are far more comfortable than the traditional sport seats. Like the color combo and seems to be decently optioned. |

only way to know whether CPO will be valid will be to call the VIN in to BMWNA (not a BMW dealer).
The CPO rules are very clear in which CPO stamps post Jan 1 2014 would no longer be valid if the car is sold by a non-BMW dealer. But hey, doesn't hurt to check one more time with BMWNA.

Definitely agree on the seats. Silver M Sports are hard to find though - if OP is really after that color, it might be too much to pass up? Especially with the cinnamon interior...

Thanks for the replies guys. I will call the BMWNA and find out about the CPO. I like the color combo, but am open for a better deal(especially for the contour seats....which i haven't tried yet). I just thought this car priced at a very tempting price.

If you plan to drive for extended periods of time I'd definitely recommend trying out the other seats otherwise if it's just going to be around town it might not be that big of a deal.

I just got off the phone from BMWNA, and they said CPO warranty will not be transferred if it is non BWM dealer.
Most of my driving is within the city. So i guess it wont be a big factor if it is not MC seats. This car is 120 miles away from my house and wondering if i need to get a PPI from a local shop (any recommendations???) |

Bummer about the warranty. If you have a Penske owned dealership near you and you prefer to have a warranty, they offer warranty programs that are pretty good for vehicles out of CPO or factory warranty.

I personally wouldn't worry about a PPI on a 2013 still under factory warranty. You could always get it home and have a PPI done a different time, and if anything is wrong bring it to the dealer. If you have specific items for the dealer to look at (something you noticed, or something uncovered during the PPI) an appt. is easy to schedule - I doubt they'll look at it if you just say you want it inspected. If that makes sense...? |

Gotcha. One more thing. I was checking the carfax report and it says it had only 1 owner (from 7/15/14). What about the prior history?

I wonder if it was a service loaner vehicle at BMW Austin? It's been at BMW Austin since new. I don't know how that works and it could differ from one state to the next, but perhaps the dealer doesn't have to title it if it's a service loaner? I could be totally wrong on that...just throwing out ideas. Service loaner....if true that might be a turnoff to many, but keep in mind they wouldn't have certified it if it wasn't in top condition both aesthetically and mechanically.
It's too bad the prior owner traded it in at a Ford dealer and rendered the CPO warranty useless. They probably didn't care though. It's interesting that the build date is 8/23 in SC and it was already offered for sale 4 days later in TX. They had that thing on the transport quickly! Even though the X5 is built in the states, the in-service date is typically further out from the build date then that. Mine was built in June and the in-service date is Sept. |

Will the factory warranty start from the date of second sale if it is a loaner

I personally would avoid service loaner vehicles. Since it's CPO I wouldn't be too bothered I don't think. The checklist of items to qualify for CPO is lengthy so it must have been in good shape to be certified. Again, I'm not saying it was a service loaner at all, but it's a possibility.
I doubt that! But you should call a BMW dealer, or BMWNA, and get the in-service date. That will determine when your warranty expires in terms of age. Heck, I'd call BMW Austin and ask them - tell them you're looking at a used X5 at a local Ford dealer that was originally sold by them, and you want to know the in-service date of the vehicle. And if they give you that, maybe that could explain the Carfax details? Typically you could get that from the Carfax report but it doesn't list the original sale. |

If you're really interested in the truck, I'd call BMW of Austin as they probably have all the history. Better yet, go over there in person and just explain what you're doing. If you're lucky, you'll find someone sympathetic and willing to help. Tell them you look forward to working with their service department. You'll be looking for three things:
- The DCS report. This will tell you all the warranty service history. If you get really lucky, they'll give you the raw version which also has the last owner's name and address. Give them a call! It might sound creepy but will definitely be worth your time. - The CPO checklist. This document details the CPO inspection and what failed. This is a handwritten report so your chances might be slim. - The CPO repair order. Every car that comes in to be CPO'd will have a repair order, if for no other reason than to order up the CPO inspection. This will show you what was repaired in order to bring it up to CPO standards and might give you a little insight into what the truck was like back in April 2014. You might also run into a situation like I have with my truck. Whether it was a service loaner, used by the dealership, a corporate vehicle, or something else I can't think of, for whatever reason the base 4/50 warranty was extended by three months or 5000 miles (it was a lease return and I bought it from the original selling dealership). Mine is CPO but CPO starts with the in service date, so technically speaking I only get 21 months of CPO warranty because of the base extension. GL!

$40k for a non-CPO though, I feel like you can get a comparable CPO car for about the same amount. i.e. you can get a comparable with a longer warranty.

I thought that too, then I checked BMWUSA.com yesterday where I found 22 2013 xDrive35i M Sports, almost all of which were CPO. A couple in the low 40's, a couple in the low 50's, but the majority are mid to high 40's.

If OP wants to buy this 2013 in question, he should aim for Manheim price + reasonable profit margin, which he'll see will also be in the very low 40s to maybe the high 30s.

I finally got hold of the service guys at BMW of Austin and asked about the car. I'm not sure if the guy I spoke to is fully aware of the CPO transfers from third party dealers, but he said the warranty all be transferred to me. And it is valid till november of 2018.
If I get the car, I'm hoping my local bmw service honors the warranty Fingers crossed..... Will update you guys soon. I'm planning to take a test drive and see how the car is. |

That could be an expensive crossing of the fingers. I'd get absolute clarification first. Here's what's on BMW NA's website:
"For Certified Pre-Owned vehicles retailed on or after January 1, 2014, the BMW Certified Pre-Owned Protection Plan and the BMW Certified Pre-Owned Elite Protection Plan are not transferable except within the BMW authorized dealer network or subject to the following condition: Private to private consumer transaction, see Limited Warranty Transfer Application"
