Painting bumpers on X5 E70

My X5 has plastic bumper covers with rough surface. I was told that to paint them is not a good idea, since paint will be pealing off of them over time. Is this true? Has anyone painted these plastic bumper covers before? I want them to match the rest of the car, which is black. If anyone has had any experience with this, please reply ...

Find a good and reputable body shop to do it. To do it properly, need to get the texture smooth, and you need a life time warranty in writing. Reasonable cost is about $800 for front and rear. I just had my project completed.

Thank you for your reply. If possible, could you please post some pictures of the before and after. Also, I was told that the paint will easily chip every time road gravel hits it. What is your opinion on that? Thanks in advance ...

I was told from a few body shops that either the bumpers need to be in a high room temperature to peel the texture off, or need to sand the texture down to get a smooth surface to prevent peeling and chipping, either case you need a lifetime warranty....If you don't have it in writing, keep on shopping.
