Dilemma.... 2011 x5m or 2013 x5 5.0

I have a 2008 Cayenne Turbo that I am looking to get rid of. I have located a 2011 X5m with 17000 miles and have also been bargaining with the dealer to order a 2013 x5 5.0 fully loaded with the M sport package.
The newer car will have more options, the older model more power . Any help here?

thanks

David

The 5.0 doesn't get great fuel economy. Like 14-15. The x5m is like 12-13. I guess it depends on what you want out of it. The x5m is an absolute beast. Insanely fun to drive and faster than most anything out there. The 5.0 isn't bad on its own, but pales by comparison. If it were me I'd go for the x5m, but it's all in what's important to you. Can you live with the options on the M? If so and the fuel economy isn't an issue for you than I'd say it's a no brainer. Get the M and be blown away every time you drive it. If fuel economy is an issue get the 5.0. You'll still have fun, but not near as much fun.

fueleconomy.gov rates the x5m that same as my Porsche. 14/19
the 5.0 is a little better 16/22.
I have test driven an 2012 x5 with the 5.0, but it didnt have the m sport package. I havent driven the x5m yet.
Are there any maintenace concerns on the x5m?
Is the suspension different on the x5m than the standard model?

The M is a beast, but can be a bit extreme on the street. The 50i is obviously more of a compromise with less performance but is more livable. It has a much better range than the M. I used to get around 200 miles per tank on the M, and am getting 350-375 per tank on the 50i. While the mpg avg isn't that much different (13.3 vs 17.5 for me), tw range really shows the difference. For me, with a daily commute of over 100 miles, filling up every other day got old. If I had a commute of less than 50 miles a day I'd definitely still have the M, but for longer commutes those extra 2 gears make a lot of difference on the highway miles. That said, I miss the performance of the M and will be chipping my 50i to narrow the gap. Drive both and see which is a better fit for you.

I was very close to buying an M, reality set in and it wasnt the right vehicle for us.

Beautiful though,

M. I drove one last week. It's tame when you want it to be, and just down right mean when you want it to be. It does everything very well. The tranny is just awesome.

I would think you would have a very hard time going from the Turbo to the 50. I have never been happier with a car as I am with the X5M. Unless you need the 3rd row, you should be able to get a good number of the options added after the fact if you HAVE to have them.
Service wise you are covered for the next 2 years and 33k. You are good to go!

X5M no question

If you're self employed you may qualify for a huge truck tax deduction (no pun intended) under IRC 179 for the X5M but not for the regular X5 because of the equally huge weight differential between the two models. Regardless, the M is three vehicles in one: a weekend racer which you will never grow tired of, a weekday ride for the family or a truck for hauling (stuff) (pun intended!). Its worth the negatives if you can afford the time and money for seemingly daily pit stops for fuel. Awesome vehicle the M.

i have an M. You honestly can't go wrong with it. At the end of the day, wat are you going to end up liking more, a car that you love to wake up and drive every day, or one with a couple more options.

Absolute true swords!

I have never thought twice after buying the M and I was really intrigued by the X5 i50...so glad I have the best of both worlds.

If budget permits, why not consider getting the 2012 Cayenne TT - as you will definitely miss that Porsche-ness in a car. Or get the X5M as an alternative choice. X5 50i is not in the same league as CTT or X5M - a truck built with different purpose. Just make sure you don't regret your choice 30 days down the road and keep asking yourself if you made the right choice or compromise.

2012 Porsche Cayenne is over $100k used

2011 X5M is 76900
2013 X5 5.0 80595
Trade value of my 2008 Cayenne is about $43k.

I dont see a $27k difference in the CTT than the X5M. I can add a tune on the X5M and stomp the CTT.

I have the x5m and driven my uncles 50i several times. What I didn't like about the 50i was the slower pedal response than my x5m. It seemed like I really had to push hard on the accelerator to get the x5 moving, then once I moved I got this big jerk pushing me back because i digged my foot hard on the accelerator. With the x5m, I don't have this problem. Also, I love the steering feel on the x5m. The 50i seems to lack that steering feedback you get with the x5m.

Oh btw, I'm at about 25xxx miles on the x5m and I absolutely LOVE it.
It's livable for daily driving and certainly puts a big grin on your face when you want to go fast...really fast.

Add a tune to the X5M and stomp a CTT?
You can easily keep up with a CTT without a tune.
It is heavier but has 55 more HP. However do not try to keep up with one if you have to turn. Just traded my X5M in on a new CTT and handling is the major difference.
