What's more reliable 2011 X5 50i or 35i?
I'm considering a used (2011) X5, but live 300 miles from the nearest dealer.
They have a nice used 2011 X5 50i, but am concerned about reliability and oil consumption (don't need the power). How much different is the reliability between the V6 and V8? Are the 8 speed automatics the same? Thanks |

8 speed transmission is the same. I-6 is way more economical and still powerful. V-8 is deliriously fun. Reliability should be virtually the same. If you won't appreciate the power go for the I-6, if you have the cash to burn (on price and gas) go for the v-8.

If you plan to mod, go for the 50i... Much more performance options available than on the 35i... Like Gwaxman34 said, if you want power but you also want good fuel economy, go for the 35i, but if you want power and don't care about gas, get the 50i...

I just test drove the 3.5 and 50i. The v8 is just an animal. That thing moves, but I have to say 3.5 was nice too.
If power is not your primary and only concern then 3.5 is the way to go, but if you want power (and a hole in your pocket) v8 is your car )
