Use it to your advantage when trading it in.
The dealer will get $500 usd per month while the X% awaits the airbag. Tell the dealer you will split that $500 with him.

Went to dealer for coils. Showed him the recall told me parts aren't available yet.... Duh. I asked roughly when he said they are doing the most affected areas first which is Florida, Texas, Cali, where it's very hot. He told me don't be surprised if you don't get it fixed in the next 5-7 years.....

Went to test drive an e92 m3 today and was told the car was pulled from the showroom floor until the airbag gets replaced. Possible shrapnel from the airbag ... crazy.

Is this still a thing? I just randomly looked around today, and plenty of E70s still being sold by BMW dealers, whether CPO or not.

Just called my local dealer. They cannot sell them, but they are getting reimbursed by BMW for them to store them, keep them on the lot until they are ready to be sold again, etc. He assured me my trade in value wouldn't be affected.

I'm not sure if off brand dealers can send them to auction but I know BMW dealers can't send them to auction or sell them to anyone period. If they take an effected car on trade it's gotta sit on the lot until the stop sale is lifted. Some dealers will give trade in value and some are giving alot less then trade in. |

How many actual deaths have been reported from these airbags? As of April 7 2016, TEN deaths in the US.
That sucks. But in the time it took my to type that, more ppl died from crack OD / heart failure / diabetes / falling off swings / anything else. I guess I agree with the recall, but all this owner fuss and BMW not selling vehicles seems like over-reaction. I know they are thinking of liability, but come on... Every car on the road can kill you a hundred other ways than blowing shrapnel in your face. And it may take years to get enough replacements manufactured and installed, so all these cars are on the road until then anyway (except the ones BMW takes on trade-in). Why not use common sense and let ppl sell/buy cars and just sign a liability waiver? Let people make their own decisions and take responsibility for those decisions. On tv this morning I heard something about 35 MILLION more airbags affected? That brings the total to 63 Million, or 1 in 4 cars on the road in the US. If you are pissed you should be pissed at Takata, and whoever is supposed to be watching their quality control, not BMW because they are in no way the only manuf impacted. I hope measures are being put in place to ensure a failure of this scale does not happen again. Takata needs to be shut down and sold off for the money and hassle they are causing.

They can't move them at all. If they could, I think every dealer would dump all these models at auction. |

Selling a car, regardless of the venue or the buyer, changes the title and along with it implied liability. BMW does not want liability for a car with a known open recall. Other car brands are starting to do the same, including retailers like Carmax. Their CEO said the other day on MSNBC that about 10% to 12% of their inventory is currently effected by this airbag recall ... Others will follow.

At the risk of starting a Federal DOT debate....why hasn't BMW and other manufacturers developed a simple "code" to deactivate the driver Airbag, pending recall replacement, along with an owner endorsed waiver. It's either safer with, or without it. If the risks are greater with the airbag, turn it off temporarily. If it's safer with it in place, leave it alone. The vehicles have many other safety systems in place, and the airbag was/is never a guarantee to begin with. At the end of the day, less than 1% of vehicles affected will ever deploy the airbag, so wouldn't it make more sense to avoid 99% of the cost and risk?

Just wanted to post my recent experience with trading in my 2012 X5 35i for a 2015 X5 35i. BMW dealer offered my KBB good condition for my vehicle which has dramatically dropped over the last several months. After reading bimmerpost (see link below), I asked about the Safety Recall Trade-in Benefit and the sales associate had to find out how this works before we could proceed. This is a BMW to dealer offer that is not public aside from users posting on the forums. The result was that if you purchase a new or CPO that is in the dealer's current inventory, they can apply the SRTB towards the purchase or lease to assist the customer. The dealer has to take your car in on trade and is not allowed to sell it until it is repaired. The dealer can receive anywhere from $300-600 per month to store the car but from what I understand they don't receive that until after the repairs are complete and the total amount of months the car was stored is calculated and the payout is provided then, so its very hard to use this in negotiations. The SRTB varies by year but for my 2012 it was $4000. I hope this helps anyone who is considering trading in.
Also a side note, it seems that other manufacturer dealerships are catching wind of the airbag recall vehicles and I was offered similar trade values, obviously with no additional trade-in incentives. http://www.bimmerfest.com/forums/sho...d.php?t=901176

Just saw where mine is also affected. I have been wanting to trade mine in on something new soon too. So I can get KBB fair trade in value plus whatever this SRTB is? (sorry not sure what that means)

Can anyone confirm this:
BMW Lease Customers - Re-Lease program details For customers within the last 60 days of their lease, a 12 month early–out Re-Lease will be available. A lease extension will NOT be available. Customers who choose the Re-Lease option can remain in their current vehicle for an additional 12 months, with an opportunity to get out early, after their vehicle has been repaired. Customers considering this option should contact the BMW FS Lease Retention team at 1-800-959-4269 for further assistance. |

The BMW dealer can offer you an incentive on recalled vehicles with the air bag issue, they would not tell me how much they are offering unless we are actually making a deal. It is all explained in the letter they sent you.
