2012 x5d, mpg dropped to 18

With summers it should get somewhat better, we were averaging 21 combined till 2 weeks ago, it's now 18 and I get 400 miles to a tank vs 480 before... This is the 2nd tank fill up with same mpg, wonder if it's the thermostat thing causing this, read a post on here abt the 88 degree TS going bad and throwing off mpg, anyone else experiencing this

PS: also been raining all along would that cause this, I don't think so

Garage List
2011 BMW X5 35d  [0.00]
Very easy to check thermostat (but hard to find good instructions, so here you go!):
1. Add up the last 5 or 6 digits of VIN (mine ends up to be "20").
2. With ignition on (or even engine running), press and hold the odometer reset button (the button on tacho and speedometer glass)
3. If engine is running, a "!" symbol will appear briefly after 7 seconds, keep holding until you see bunch of cryptic numbers and letters
4. Repeatedly press the button and go to "19" and stop; it will ask for code
5. Repeatedly press the button to enter code (mine is 20) and stop
6. Repeatedly press the button to go to "7" for thermostat temperature.
Start driving and monitor the temperature.
