Buying a 2007 X5 4.8

I am new here and thinking of buying an 07 X5 4.8, sports, tech and entertainment package with 75k miles for 23k Canadian

Just have a few questions, what should I look for? It comes with a 2 year third party powertrain warranty because its from a used car dealer. Any serious flaws on this 07 year 4.8 model? Can't wait to own this beast

Am I nuts to buy it?

thanks

Save your pennies and buy a CPO from a BMW dealer
The smallest repairs will cost a fortune
Did you check the x5 out with an independent BMW expert?
Do you have an ownership history?

I have an 07 4.8 with 44k miles, bought with 25k on it and I didn't have any problems besides a brake line that was replaced under the last recall. You might have to change the battery though, mine needs replacement and I got 2 quotes from Bmw stealers one was $500 the other $700. Also check the tires. These models are known for premature inside tire wear out because of the sport package.
If possible check the service history.

People normally don't desire to own a BMW out of warranty as the costs of repairs are ridiculous... not to mention that BMW's are not the best reliable cars around..

With that said, I would never own a BMW out of warranty..
Good luck.

The X5 might fit into your budget now, but it won't once you will start having to pay for repairs on it. Ask my friend who has an '08. It was under warranty when he bought it, he's already spent $7K+ on repairs since it fell out of warranty. Mine is a CPO and it gives me peace of mind.

What's the main problem with this model year? Electrical? Drivetrain? Etc?

$23??????????????? Insane price from what I researched before I bought my '07 for $27. Most dealers were $33+

Granted, mine was from a trusted mechanic/friend, but still..... good price, just ensure you have it inspected prior to purchase of course.

I don't think there are common issues that all old X5s are plagued with, but in the instance of my friend, his A/C had issues twice and he had an oil leak inside the engine. Lots of fun out of warranty.

Personally, why buy the first year of the E70? If any car will have issues, it'll be the first year they are released. Spend that $23K somewhere else.

Where in Canada are you located? I am in BC and will be selling my 08 CPO 4.8I soon. I had a whole bunch of stuff done to the car recently and all that work has an extended two year warranty on it. CPO is till next summer (2014).

DO NOT buy one of these things without some form of warranty .

I bought a year ago an X5 2009 3.0 with 90k km and NO warranty.

One year after I can tell you that I'm more than happy with it.

Garage only once to change oil, that's it.

It's a bet my friend, but go for it.

Good luck.

Thanks, but I think I am going to think about it more...after all the bad reviews I read about the 07s X5...a lot of unhappy owners...most of the people recommend warranty if going to buy a used one.

No warranty will kill you. My 08' 4.8 was always in the shop. Transfer case, Trans, injectors etc. All under warranty so I didn't really care too much. If I had to pay for it, that'd be a different story.

My dad is about to order his first F15 after two E70s. His first one was a 2008 model. He put more than 105K miles on it in four years and only ever had one major issue that resulted in it having to be towed. For the rest, solid as a rock. His 2013 (a 40d) has proven to be very reliable too, but then again, he's probably not even put 10K on there. The F15 will be ordered in the next month or so.
