Windshield tint
So I got my front windows tinted today on the X5M. Had the installer use a light meter on the back windows and they were a little lighter than I expected. Around 30%. He used a 35% ceramic film on the front windows and it looks pretty good.
My question is about the windshield. I want to keep it classy and not go crazy dark. I also want to improve the contrast on the HUD. I was thinking either 50% or 70%. What do you guys think? Is 50 too dark?? Also- my car is registered in PA but rarely spends any time there. Inspection stickers are required. Should I have the installer cut around those that way they can be replaced every year? What about EZ-Pass? Should I install around that, or remove the 3M Double sided tale and reinstall over the film. I don't think the automatic high beam sensor should be effected. Let me know what you guys think. Thanks in advanced !! |

I thought that was super illegal in all states? I know they sell clear ceramic film that will block out UV rays and keep temperatures down. I had a sunpass in Florida and that thing would work even in my glove box.

I am curious to know this as well, recommendation given to myself was 70% looks like there is no tint on the front windshield yet the heat is reduced from coming inside the vehicle. Nothing darker than 50% which can become a huge issue for safety, so maybe 60-65% would be suitable for you. I am not 100% sure since I don't have this done

here's a website for tint by state, i know recently texas changed the law and it's not reflected correctly on this site so may be a bit outdated. texas added that we can have clear tint on the front windshield. good for blocking heat with ceramic tint

That looks extremely dark, no issues at all in Cali or driving through other states?

From the pic it looks pretty dark inside the garage and the white car also parked under the shade, In the summer time daylight cant tell unless you approach to the vehicle closely.
The X5 i had it tinted for 5 yrs, my landcruiser also windshield tinted for almost 16 yrs now, so far i dont have problem with the authority. The only thing I got pulled over one time with my Lexus for not having front lic plate. |
