Hate to sound ignorant but to be honest i'm not even sure exactly what it is. Would you mind linking one here? I thought it was just a voltage regulator to ensure noise was kept to a minimum while flashing but now i'm not sure. i ordered one of these http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00...?ie=UTF8&psc=1

i would rather get this done tonight so if you could post a link for onw i can pick up tonight that would be great.

Thanks

Tenders are a little different than chargers, offering a trickle "charge," over a full charge that often spikes the battery cells to remove any calcification and other battery storage related issues.

A tender is proper, a charger *could* cause issues.

Your mileage can vary on this. I did my post-N63 base map extract on a brand new, fully charged battery, without the stabilizer, and it threw low battery warnings about 2/3 of the way in. The extract finished, but my blood pressure was a bit on the high side by the end.

Per Omar, writing takes a fair bit more power than reading, so the stabilizer is key on the write.

I used that exact model when I did my Velos tune with no issues. I suggest putting on that trickle charger prior to the install to ensure you have a full-loaded battery.

The charging systems on the x5 sucks and with the wife's driving profile, I usually put the car on the tender at least once every 1-2 weeks for 12-24 hour stint. Has eliminated any battery warning issues.

This is not my experience... my "read" took 80 minutes and I did not use any stabilizer or charger, but I do have a new 2013 with only 2000 miles on it and a fully charged battery. Near the end of the read, I got the "battery discharge" warning but it completed OK.

I don't know about this... when I installed my Evolve tune on the 335, the read took 75 minutes, whereas the write only took 20 minutes... so if this is true, I would definitely recommend connect a stabilizer / charger to the battery.
