Need help - Gas issue
Folks I need help. Yesterday I filled my gas tank with Shell 93 octane gas which I always use, and within minutes my car started stuttering and stopped. I had to call BMW assist and they had to tow my car to the local dealership. According to service department it is poor quality gas mixed with water that caused this. I am not sure if the damages are going to be covered by 4yr/50k warranty. They will contact me after they investigate.
I have already emailed shell customer relations. What is your suggestion in terms of proceeding forward. Is there any way shell will cover the damages. Thanks in advance. |

Wow, not good!
So thankfully I've never had this happen to me as I too use Shell 93, but a buddy of mine many years ago had this happen to him when he filled up his car, he didn't even make it out of the station when it quit on him. My suggestion would be to have BMW do a complete evaluation and write-up in detail and then FAX that over to Corporate Shell as well as the station owner. At the very least, if it turns out to be bad/contaminated fuel, Shell should reimburse you all costs to have BMW drop and drain the tank, replace all filters etc... as well as the cost of a full tank of gas and a loaner for however long it's going to take them to take care of this. I don't know all the specifics but I'm guessing that BMW is going to have to dispose of the contaminated fuel according to federal environmental regulations, which I'm sure isn't going to be cheap either. Good luck with everything and hope they get it resolved for you quickly. Post back with what comes of it all as well...

Your dealer would have to have the gas analyzed onsite, or sent somewhere. They did do that right, rather than pull out a zany idea out of their butt to deny the work?
Which means, you wouldn't be the only person to have this issue, and practically anyone that used that pump or station that day would have had the same issue...

I just finished dealing with a similar issue. My truck on two occasions would not restart after filling up at the pump. The first time it was towed in they replaced the fuel pump controller. After I got the truck back it started up normally and all was well for the next few days. I went to fill up for the first time since I got it back and the same thing happened again, no start condition. Towed it in and they replaced the fuel pump this time around. I have filled up twice since, so far so good....

thanks, I'm waiting what they say. They got the car today, keeping my fingers crossed. Interesting thing is that my 4yr/50k warranty ends on June 18. It has 49300 miles and 16 days left
