S63 Injector Recall: SIB 13 08 15

Not sure if this new information, but I have my truck currently at the dealer to get any loose ends taken care of before warranty expires. My buddy is a master BMW tech and told me the S63 injectors are on the recall list for being replaced. He said he can't replace them until I get the letter in the mail, but this is good news since these are fairly expensive to replace out of pocket and fail fairly frequently

If true this is great news. Glad BMW M is stepping up to the plate.

My phone injectors are starting to go too. Dealership recommended that replacing but aftermarket warranty wouldn't cover since it isn't throwing a fault code yet.

If this is the case, my dealer will replace them for me.

My truck (2011 X5M with 56k miles) runs perfect I have had no issues with it whatsoever...unless my truck is showing signs of having bad injectors will they still replace with index 11/12 whatever the new ones are?

Also my truck is tuned and has catless dp's, will that offend the almighty BMW Gods and decline me new injectors

I really don't know the extent of the recall yet, his text to me said the following "looks like the S63 injectors are now on the recall list for being replaced. You will have to wait for the letter before I can replace them. SIB 13 08 15". I'm modded as well and doubt they will challenge you if the part needs to be replaced.

I wonder if I'll even get a letter? Since owning the truck, I have yet to bring it to BMW for any work...bought it from CarMax

I imagine it will be a service campaign and not technically a recall.

Do we have confirmation yet that the s63 injectors are being addressed?

Just sent him another text and he said my vehicle is already "Pending" and should have a letter within the next few months. So I would say that yes the S63 injectors are being addressed. Anyone interested could call their BMW SA to look into further to see if they will be covered by this.

Can you ask him who we'd wanna contact about getting this handled? I don't goto the BMW dealership unless absolutely needed, I had a BMW tech buddy help me replace the injectors at my home, but my vehicle is in their system since I had to have the FRM3 replaced by them. I just wanna see if I can recoup my $900 or if BMW will pay for the repairs if they perform the work...which is likely their screw you loophole.

Usually with recalls, BMW has offered the option of filing for reimbursement if work was done by you prior to the recall. I think you should be able to recoup your $$$ if you can provide documentation.

I spoke with my service advisor today. He said that he does see an open campaign for my vehicle. So it shouldn't be long before I receive a letter.

My buddy has his X5M at the dealership getting his injectors done as we speak. BMW agreed to do the replacement as a goodwill gesture. ...They also told him it was a $4500 job!
This is good news!

Injectors are $900 through Rockauto for index 12 and they're BMW parts, took my buddy is a mechanic at BMW and he did it for me at my house in 8hrs. $4500 is absurd and I'm sure they're inflating their goodwill numbers to pat themselves on the back.

this is great news, I hope it follows through to canada too, I have been suspecting that my injectors is somewhat leaking for a really long time, altho being catless and tuned, it is a lot harder to tell the symptoms

I believe 1 of my injectors is going bad, my friend sent me a pic of the sparkplugs and 1 of them was completely black, whereas, the others still looked white. The rear diffuser is also covered with more soot on that side. I'm glad BMW stepped up here

Just curious, is there more soot on the left side of the diffuser?

Is it for a particular year(s)? I called 2 different dealerships and both said there's nothing for my VIN

Here's a pic of the spark plug in the cylinder that I believe has a bad injector, can you guess which one it is

I'm thinking this not only impacts performance, but also fuel economy and engine starts. I'll have to hit the track/dyno again once this is done to see if it helped at all.
