My x5 got hitched!
Shown is a 2012 5.0 MSport with a Curt Class 3 Hitch (13077).
Installed by Rack N Road in San Jose, CA... I'm pretty happy with how it turned out (no cuts visible -- though there is a section on the bottom of the bumper that had to be cut). |

newb here,
just about to pick my X5d, got a quote from the dealer for 1500CDN to install the hitch. seems very very steep for a hitch. What hitch are you guys installing and what's it costing you? thanks! |

That's a similar price of what the dealer quoted me. I received a quote to have a Curt installed for about $700 and another quote for $500 for Draw-Tite.

$1500 seems much higher that the price my BMW dealer told me when I bought my X5 last month. He told me that the price is just about $600. Maybe he just fooled to me. I should ask him write down the price for me

$250 if you buy the hitch on eBay and do it yourself. The 2011+ models have an optional hitch cut out piece available through the dealer. I also installed the hitch on my 2009 as well and it was just as easy as my 2011.

EBay says around $500 for a hitch kit... do you have a link for the hitch kit at $250? Thanks!

You should look into the Execuhitch brand one for your X5M. It's totally hidden from view and most importantly you don't have any cutouts on your bumper. I use it to tow my bike to the track all the time.

Sorry for reviving an old thread but I'm about to install a Curt hitch on my X5d and have the same issue. The Curt hitch does not have a mounting for the factory trailer connector. What did you end up doing?

1500 cad sounds about right this is how us Canadians overpay for everything. Be also aware that the bumper cut for the oem hitch is larger than the curt and those bumper plastics they install to hide the cut are horrible looking. Get the curt install it yourself have the wiring done at the dealer,

I had the Curt installed on mine last year. It was $700 for parts and labor. They did all the wiring - it was necessary to trim the M Sport bumper slightly but it it not visible - and electrical conector is attached to under-side of bumper, very stealth.

In installed my Curt hitch with the BMW harness today. The hitch was $159 and the harness was $198 from Passport BMW. The install was a pain but that's just because I was super anal careful with the bumper. The truck is 5 days old to me. I could have the bumper off in 20 min now. Now to tow the race car..
