Automatic Touch Carwash
I know I shouldn't have, but the touch free car wash didn't cut it, so I decided to go for an automatic touch car wash. For those in Canada, I went to a Petro Canada station to get the job done. To my dismay, I noticed multiple permanent scratches on my rear wind shield after the wash. Could this be due to the car wash? The car wash used a rotary brush, instead of soft cloth, but it was too late to back out of the "assembly line" by the time I noticed the setup.
I also want to point out that the front windshield is fine -- no scratches -- so I am guessing that the scratches were pre-existing, but I didn't notice them until after the car wash and was incorrectly attributing them to the wash. The rotary brushed went from the front windshield, top of the X5, and then to the rear windshield. If there was a problem with the brush, then I should have similar problems with my front windshield and roof, correct? |

I think it was a pre-existing problem you didn't know about. By the way, don't ever use an automated car wash that touches your vehicle. They are scratch machines.

I have in the past, scratch window glass using an ice scraper during the winter. Is it possible that you may have done this as well, as I tend to agree with the earlier post that if it scratched the glass, think of what it would've done to the paint.

The paint is fine, reinforcing the suggestion that the problems existed before the touch wash. I actually double-checked the scratches, and I agree with some of you that they are likely pre-existing. Thanks for the feedback!
