New 2011 X5 xDrive35d owner!

Just bought a 2011 X5 in Sea Blue Metallic with beige leather with 59K on the clock and loaded - this will be my "weekend car" and for soccer and ski activities with my 3 kids and wife - here's what I got:

Absolutely Loaded 2011 BMW X5 35d with extended maintenance package included until 10/29/2016 or up to 100,000 miles. Original MSRP of $72,625. Packages and option include: Sport Activity Package, Active Ventilated Seat Package (Active seat for driver, Front ventilated seats), Cold Weather Package (Heated steering wheel, Ski bag, Heated front seats, Retractable headlight washers), Premium Package (Power adjustable steering column, Power tailgate, Universal garage-door opener, Auto-dimming interior and exterior mirrors, Lumbar support, Storage package, Digital compass mirror, Ambiance lighting, BMW Assist with bluetooth), Premium Sound Package (Satellite Radio, Premium hi-fi system, iPod and USB adapter), Rear Climate Package (Rear manual side window shades, 4-zone automatic climate control, Privacy glass), Technology Package (Rear-view camera with Top View, Park Distance Control, Navigation system, Online information services, Voice-command, Real Time traffic information), Sport Package (Sports leather steering wheel, 19 Light alloy Y-Spoke wheels, Multi-contour seats, Shadowline exterior trim, Anthracite headliner), Rear DVD Entertainment system, Self-leveling suspension, Comfort Access keyless entry, Running boards, Roof rails, Auto-dimming rear view mirror, Heated rear seats, 3rd row seat, 3rd row seat climate control, Lane Departure Warning, Head-up display.

And price was considered great value by www.truecar.com - now I understand there are some recalls - especially the engine bolts - how do I check to see if recalls have been done on the X5 before I take delivery next week? Any way to find out online (I have the VIN number) - the dealer said they're not allowed to sell a pre-owned car unless all recalls have been taken care of - but just want to be sure.

Thanks!

Did you purchase from a BMW dealer? They are the ONLY source for all the information you are looking for ...just ask ...

... and then ask for a print out. Your sales person has access to the same work history data base as the service people, and often times they will bend the rules on sharing information in the interest of getting the sale, or because you promised them that you will give them and the dealership a favorable rating when you get the survey. Play this hand to your advantage ... If they are uncooperative, tell them to black out the name on the records, you just want to know the repair history on the car, not the name of the previous owner (although that would help if any repairs were done outside the dealership).

If you haven't paid for the car yet, or have not taken delivery, it is EASY to play this card ...

Yes - already got all that information from them - Jason Lenko has been great and very forthcoming. This is from Wyoming Valley BMW and for the recalls he said they all have been performed. I assume that there's a website or something that I can check to verify this? Am I correct in also believing that a sticker is affixed to the driver door jamb noting a recall has been taken care of?

You have the most authoritative information available .. no other source is available for verification if/when work is performed by BMW.

In another post on this forum you say that the car is not CPO, but yet you have "full maintenance included till October 2016 at any dealership ...".

That's unusual ... is this the BMW extended maintenance service agreement, but yet no CPO? Why?

Was the car not eligible, or did the dealer elect not to CPO it? If so, why?

If the car is eligible for CPO, I HIGHLY recommend that you get it BEFORE you drive it off the lot! With a little negotiating, you should be able to get the CPO at dealer cost ... and the 2014 CPO covers electronics and NAV, a BIG plus. I paid a little over $2,000 for mine in May of this year. A comparable EVP Plan, Gold version is at least $3,600 ... and believe me, you don't want to own an X5 loaded like yours without any coverage ... IMO.

I am with PAX5 on CPO. Why would they throw in maintenance but not CPO?

Sorry - was away for awhile - no - they didn't throw it in. I'm basically buying a non-CPO car and the extended maintainence agreement was purchased by the original owner - and is still good until October 2016.

Thanks - can't wait to get it.
