Maximum acceleration
I have a 2012 X5 5.0 with a Dinan stage 2. I need to know what rpms I need to shift at for maximum acceleration. I have a friend who has a 2012 Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT 8 and he kinda picks on me at times claiming his truck is much faster than mine. I really dont care, but eventually its gonna come down to a show down. What rpms should I shift at?

Is that SRT built? If so, you should shift at X5M.

With an automatic, let alone a stock one, it doesn't really matter. Floor it, car will shift at redline each time.
The SRT on the other hand can be built to have it's trans modified for firmer shifts, higher stall speeds for better launches, and shift points revised... You sir are at a disadvantage, depending on how modified his/her car is. My old Suburban could chirp the 1-2 shift. downshifts from 3 to 1 were possible at 30MPH, and I could launch the car at 3k RPM's. All for just $100 in parts and a $300 mail-order tune. |

You really should look at a dyno chart. See at what RPM the HP really starts to dropoff. At that point, shifting should put it back into a high torque RPM where the HP is still climbing.
IMO - Looking at a few charts, 1-2 gear i would shift around 6K, then 3-4 let it run out a little more. |

Get a BMS Stage 1. It should work with your Dinan and give you another 25-35 whp.
Takes literally 5 minutes to install and remove. Or dump the Dinan and get the BMS Stg 2. That should give you around 450 whp on a 2012 N63. The 470hp SRT Jeep runs around 13.4 sec 105. You should be able to beat that if he is stock but it's not hard to squeeze more power out of that SRT.

im not sure if his SRT is stock. My gut tells me it isnīt because we have had these trucks for at least 2 years now and just in the past 2 months he has been saying how he beats up on all SUVīs, especially X5īs. Last edited by Turbobusa; 08-26-2014 at 02:04 PM.. Reason: mistake |
