2012 X6 4.4 N63, Major issues??

Just picked up a 2012 X6 with the 4.4 v8 twin turbo "N63" engine. This vehicle has 70k miles on it and is currently having some engine, starting issues going on. When trying to start it sounds like its just not cranking over near as fast as it should be. I have tried charging the battery several times and also replaced it with a new one. I plugged my snap on scan tool into it and found a lot of codes.. When cranking the engine over I can also smell gas once in a while. Could I have an injector issue going on? What are some of the most common issues with these engines? Some of the codes Im seeing are: 2A74, 2A78, 2B18, 2A7C, 2A7D, 2A7B, 2A7A. Any info is greatly appreciated!

I had the same start up issue when I first bought it back in 2014. It turned out to be the fuel injectors malfunction and also the vacuum line leak. I do not know the code but you should check with the dealership to see if they perform the customer care package yet. Your Injectors will be replaced at no cost. Good luck!

Agree with above! Definitely make sure the CCP has been completed.

This vehicle has 76,000 miles on it... it wouldn't have any sort of coverage or qualify for the CCP anymore would it?

Doesnt matter how many miles you have or if you are out of warranty as long as you are in the N63 CCP category.

So what happens is you have a timing chain break/jump and your vehicle has never had the CCP service done? Do they cover any of the engine repairs?

I think the best way for you is call the dealership and confirm with them. i have a 2012 x6 50i as well and currently I'm at 54k. Before the CCP I only had the start up problem and they replaced my fuel injectors to the most updated version and vacuum line i think. The car is running fine now just a little oil drip once in a while.

All I know is that they will do the CCP even if your car is out of warranty.

I called one dealer today and they said the CCP was done back in 2015 on my vehicle. I also did a compression test on it and found some strange results... Bank 1 showed: 100, 35, 30, 25 and bank 2: 145, 90, 125, 115. Is it pretty safe to say I have timing chain issues/ bent valves?

Garage List
I think you need to start checking out the codes. If the compression was that bad it should turn over pretty fast. (Experience from other cars)

I called my local BMW dealer and had them look up the service history on this vehicle. They told me the CCP was done back in May of 2015, exactly 14,000 miles ago from what it currently has... I pulled the oil filler neck out of the valve cover so I could watch the timing chain as I cranked it over. Didn't see any issues there. Then I decided to take a look at the oil filter and immediately found a major issue. The oil was very shiny, metallic colored and I could see lots of little metal pieces in the filter itself. I realize this is about the worse case scenario I could have here. Any idea what could cause that to happen on this engine? Is there any chance BMW will do anything to help me out with this issue? Thanks!!

sounds like it is just a plain bottom end failure. Time to pull the motor out and rebuild or replace. I would call BMW see if they can do anything as from my research I have found these n63's to be a bit on the pricey side.

How long have you had the truck? You may be able to do something with the place you purchased it from if it has not been long at all. I would recommend that route.
