Why swap out of the run flats? I considered it for the 3 series, but just opted for tire insurance. Those you kept the run flats, did you get the tire insurance directly from BMW?

If I had 20" rims I think I would go for the insurance. I am going to pass on it for the stock 19's. |

How's the ride on non-run flats. I did that on my 06 3-series and it made the handling much softer...almost Camry like.

The $150 is like insurance. You COULD swap out the run-flats if you wanted to (the ride is not bad on the X6, but OMG on the 3-series it is horrific). Also, while I totally love the idea of run-flats (not being stranded), there are plenty of stories of people BEING stranded because their run-flat is totally ruined and they have to wait to get a new tire (and these things are not stocked very well). So in that case I can throw the spare on and be done with it. My last car did not have runflats or a spare (crap, my 1M doesn't either ), so call me overly cautious. And at $150, it just seems like cheap insurance.

Another reason to get spare is to save run-flat in case of a puncture
If you dont drive on deflated run-flat, you could patch it and use it further Otherwise it's a throwaway |

I finally got tire insurance from Firestone right before I left San Francisco, and it has been great. I have had to swap out over 8 tires since I moved back to New Your. On my way to Philly, the sensor went on after a loud noise, I found Firestone 6 miles away, 2 hours later I was driving back home. I do have 19" on my 3 series, so I don't know if the 19" x6 needs it. Sounds like doug suggest no.
I have driven more that 50 mi after the TPM sensor has indicated that something is wrong on my way home. I think the run-flats are good insurance... now the $150 spare... does that take up any room or does it sit under the truck? Additionally, do you also car a car jack? It seems like it is unlikely that one would actually need it.

BMW recommends that they be replaced. So BMW dealers won't patch them. Some shops will, but ultimately, if you drive on a run-flat you ruin it. Quote:
The $150 includes spare & jack and sits in the spare tire wheel well. You would be able to use that for storage (if you did not have the spare) I guess, but I'm not sure anyone does (you have to lift up the floorboard).
