21" non run flat vs run flat

There is already a thread about getting these new Michelin Pilot Super Sport tires. I finally got mine on today and went out for a short ride. Before they were installed I noticed a big difference in the stiffness compared to stock Dunlop run flats. The PSS's are lighter and much more flexible. It had me wondering how it will be taking corners hard, as I love the solid feel the run flats had. I still need to take a more spirited drive but initially these tires take the bumps nicer and seem a bit more quiet. The look is fairly similar to the Dunlops and I like that. I'll post again with a few more miles on them.

The increased compliance over bumps could be due to the decrease in unstrung weight.

Michelin PSS's are great tires! I ran them on my RS4.

I never found a "street" tire that handled better. I don't count DOT approved r compound tires as street tires.

I'm running the same setup. 10x better than my stock 20 inch run flats...

Much softer/forgiving going over bridge joints and potholes. Crazy amounts of grip.

MPSS pretty much the golden standard for a performance summer tire, night and day difference.

Just did a little hard driving. I do notice the more flexible tire walls in hard turns where there is a change of direction or weight but not a big deal...pretty happy with these. I think on the track the Dunlops might make me feel a little bit more comfortable but for everyday driving (including aggressive driving), I'd still with these MP SS tires. A tiny bit of road feel loss for a nicer ride. It's not night and day so subjective opinions here.

Those look good on the X5. I have them on my 3 series and the rears seem kinda chubby in stock size. Good tires though…quiet & grippy.
