Muffler Delete Engine issues

So if I wasn't balling on a budget I'd go full exhaust, BUT to be honest I think I like the sound of the muffler delete better than any exhaust out and I'll save myself about a G....

That being said

I've read all about people bitching about drone and I don't care really at all, what I do care about is what affect it could have on my engine.
I am out of warranty, car is an 08 with 81,--- miles.

Will the delete set off any dash lights
or
have any affect on my engine / turbos negatively?

(I plan on doing the delete from the resonator back)

Thanks

It won't damage the engine or set off any malfunction lights. That said, it will sound stupid and people will think your car is in need of repair.

engine will be fine and won't set off any lights. I had it on my 2008 335i coupe for a long time and loved it. It all depends on what you like

Lmfao^ absolutely true. Picked up a BMW perf exhaust for my e92 msport 335 and love the hell out of it. Can't go wrong. You pay to play, and honestly man, if you can't shell out 500-1000 for a decent exhaust, you should not be messing with a BMW (particularly not a typically problematic 335). Trust me this is my 3rd 335 (one 07 e92, one 08 e90 and my current 11 n55) more hopeful for less issues with my n55 but I am cpo and extended service so I don't care anymore.

Never and I mean never buy a n54 without owning some kind of warranty on it. I would suggest the same for n55 or really any damn BMW. Love hate kinda relationship with these cars. Lol.

Just as you are advising the OP that he can't "afford" his BMW if he can't shell out $1000 for an exhaust, there are those that would say you can't "afford" yours because you advise to never own one out of warranty. All that comes down to perspective and priorities. Let's keep this thread focused on facts, mainly that removing the muffler from a late model BMW is childish and completely not in keeping with the character of the car. I know e90s are getting cheap now, even the N55s, sadly, but it still is not a $2000 Civic.

Maybe post this is the N54 section.

It won't harm anything, as there's nothing to be damaged back there.

Apart from all the naysayers - I come in peace. I've the mod on my N55, and love it. I used the remaining money that I would have spent on a catback, to purchase KW V3's.

I respect what you are saying about others thinking the warranty is necessary, and yeah kind of unfocused on topic I suppose but realistically it's kind of common sense, and most BMW owners would agree, a BMW or 3rd party extended warranty coverage is necessary. Especially if you are even thinking about mildly modding a car (which is mostly why we are here right?). My advice is to consider all of that before purchasing a turbo (or any) BMW.

I agree with you on the modding exhaust thing but realistically the sound and marginal perf gain is almost identical. I worry about the life of the welds and compromising a well built oem muffler. Typical Bs muffler shops can't do that type of internal baffle mod and tight-quarter welding to produce something that will hold up, but a decent BMW shop familiar with the mod may be able to a bit better. Either way the life of the weld work and compromising the canister are an issue IMO.

I also agree removing the muffler and putting on some Cyba tips is pretty ghetto or childish is say and yes that particular sound is terrible.

Exhaust mod at a reputable shop, costs roughly $300. If somehow the welds fail - being a reputable shop, they should fix it at no charge. If the sound ends up not being to your preference, you could likely sell it for the same price you paid. Experimenting is fun

Try eBay first they can be had now from dealers for like 1000$. I paid sound that for mine, dealers have inventory for n55 e92/e90 perf exhausts and are cutting prices hardcore on them

Yeah definitely a good reputable shop will typically stand by their work. And yeah agree experimenting and saving money for the more essential mods is always a good thing!!

Typically removing any exhaust flow restriction after the turbo will improve engine performance. If you are considering a DP upgrade in the future or removing your secondary cat (assuming your N54 xi has one), then I would not modify your muffler. After upgrading you DP's your car will be louder and might achieve the desired exhaust note.

Regarding my previous posts:

I just realized that this thread is for a complete muffler delete. I actually cannot speak to this at all, as I only modded the muffler internals. So...I guess that most of what I said was irrelevant
