Winter tire time! What to choose?

I need a set of new winter tires. I will be running them on my 298M 19" wheels. I previously had the Vredestein Wintrac Extreme SUV on my former X5 now on my X6M. They were good tires and were rated V. I felt they were a little weak on lateral grip. They are at the end of life and need new winters. I was looking at the Hakka R2 SUV (non -studded) and was wondering how these perform compared to the Wintracs. Hakka's are only R rated, other option may be Pirelli Ice & snow. Wintrac were great, quiet but as most winters wore quickly. At the end they were useless on slushy roads and hard pack.

Hakka R's are great, wear like iron and are great snow and ice tires, but are a little mushy when pushed. Pirelli snows suck. Winter performance tires don't exist. Go for maximum traction or maximum performance but don't expect both in the same tire.

I have run the Pirelli tires for the last two winters with no issues. I run the stock tire sizes on the X5M. Performance wise, they have done very well. We don't get the massive 20" snow falls here but we did have a few 8-10 inch snows and the tires did great.

Continental DWS handled winter snow and ice here in MN just fine. Good all around tire. X5 is an SUV, not a sports car.

I am looking for dedicated snow tires.

Last winter I ran Haaka R2 non studded run flats and I was ver happy with them. Previous X5 snow tires had been Dunlop Grandtrek and Blizzaks. The Dunlop were not as noisy as the others, but had a bit less grip. Certainly recommend dedicated snow tires if you live in snow country. My experience with all season tires were pretty good when I lived in the Seattle, WA area and travelled extensively across the major passes. I believe the Continentals DWS to be a really good tire.

I run Conti DWS on the X5M in the summer, and have Nokian Hakka R2 on 19" 298M for winter. I previously had Pirelli Scorpion Winters but the non studded Hakkas are better. If you want to run studded tires (I have them on my Ram 1500) the Hankook i*Pikes are a good choice and are made in the proper size for the 298M wheels.

Why go will a all season( and not a max summer) if you have winter tires. I bought an m for handling and large motor, that is still family friendly, and not a glorified station wagon

I decided to go with the Hakka SUV R2. I hope they are as good as everyone says I was a little apprehensive with the "R" rating as opposed to the Vreds "V" rating.
