Just buy a CPO one mate, and you won't have to worry about issues.

I too recommend CPO but if OP plans to own this X5 for the long run, CPO doesn't last forever

I'd get a 2012 or 2013 - the newer the better (more warranty) and you'll get the LED coronas. Not important to everyone, but IMO it's worth it.

Also, have you driven a 50i? If you're buying used they aren't that much more $, and it's a big upgrade in performance. Gas mileage is only slightly worse (both are bad IMO). Just something to think about before pulling the trigger. We were all set to buy a 35i…until we drove a 50i…

Just my .02. Good luck - they are great vehicle regardless of what year/model you buy

I don't think there is too much to worry about on the LCI models. Before you buy the vehicle, just make certain all required maintenance has been done on it. The dealership will be able to tell you what was repaired under warranty.

Thanks for the replies everybody. No i haven't test drove the 50i the dealer that i went to test drive the 35i they had a 50i, i can always try that one, more power obv but the gas mileage i heard is pretty bad compared to the 35i. But i will give it a shot. And yea i plan to keep it for a long time but cpo is a must, when the warranty runs out and it starts giving me headaches i will get rid of it lol as far as ive seen the 2011 have the led corona rings, at least in canada it does.

The 35i is rated 16/23, the 50i 14/20. Regarding MPG, not a big difference IMO. In regards to performance….big difference IMO.

I don't pretend to know anything about the Canadian spec X5's but I'd be surprised if they were different than US spec models? The only 2011 US spec models with LED coronas were later build diesel models. Run the VIN….any gas model built late March 2011 or later will have the LED coronas, but they'll be 2012 model year vehicles. The 2011 diesel's were built until summer 2011…those should be the only 2011's with LED coronas.

Looks nice - very clean and has some options.

This one has the halogen coronas.

That one actually has the regular (halogen bulb) corona rings. Nothing wrong with that per se, but the 2012 LED coronas are definitely more impressive.

Have you thought about the sport model, or the M Sport version? It gives the X5 a much beefier look with 20" wheels and fender flares.

I can attest to the 35i mileage sucking. Should have just got the 50i... But I do have the msport package which is a great visual upgrade package.

Those large tires aren't great for MPG. I average about 24 mpg on the highway going 70-75.

Yes i saw a couple m-sport package ones. But most come with the sport seats and i really want the the confort seats with the 18way adjustment. But the dealer knows my package preference and will call me when they have the one with the packages i want. Can i get more input from 35i owners and 50i owners, now I'm in doubt in which one to get lol

You can get the sports seats with the comfort seat (multi-contour) option - this is a pretty common combination. At least in the U.S. Having both is a plus.

You should go drive both and then decide which one to search for.

That's what I'm going to do. If the mpg is close to one another the 50i sounds better, in terms of reliability compared to the 35i which one has more problems? I plan to keep it for a long time.

You can update your halogen coronas to LEDs in 15 minutes and $30-$100 depending on the look you want. There are many options on Ebay. Don't let that be part of any decision.

Well, you won't have to worry about the Vanos issues with the 50i. Otherwise not sure if one is more reliable than the other.

Sure, you can install LED bulbs in a halogen corona setup, but you'll never replicate a 2012+ OEM LED corona setup doing that, regardless of what bulb you install.

Ha! I drove from my in-laws to my house last night, reset the MPGs, and average 24.5mpg on a 150 mile trip. Plenty of hills and descents, going between 65 and 80. Not terrible.

They will NEVER look as good as the real deal. Frankly, most aftermarket LED options will looks worse than what's in there now.
