Jack and Jack Stand Questions

Can I use this 1.5 Ton capacity jack to lift the X5M? If not, how many Ton is recommended? Another question is where can I put the jack stand after lifting the truck with the jack? Thanks!

You could per corner. Id think twice about lifting an entire end of the truck, a Two ton would be better. You may also want to get one of those jack pucks that fit the factory jack points

Yes. Per corner, you can absolutely use that jack, with a jack stand for safety and a puck adapter like from BurgerTuning. I just changed over my winters to summers using this setup, along with my new Dewalt impact driver and torque wrench, which made it all an absolute breeze. I don't know where you'd put a jack stand to actually rest the truck on, since there's so much plastic. I just put the jack stand there in case the jack gives out.

Thats a great point to make, when talking about those "race jacks," that are low to begin with, to handle that "stanced," honda civic.

My cheapy 2Ton has an extension piece, adding 3" of lift to the jack, and that works on the X5 fine. For my subaru, alone it was fine. On my focus ST, I have to drive on a 2x4 then lift the car...

Seems that no jack is perfect, short of a really expensive one (not from sears or harborfreight), an actual lift, or my favorite... www.quickjack.com I hope to get one of these if they are on sale or I get a nice bonus.

I was also looking at these at one time, but they aren't high enough for the X6/X5. Expensive, but good idea if space is at a premium and no room for a lift.

I got the jack pads, wheel hangers and jack stands with the blocks that fit in the jack points from Reverse Logic. Works great.

I'm not terribly impressed with that. It saves you 10sec of time at that, with no height adjustability.

Quickjack is the ticket.

I have seen those. However, the largest one they make is the BL-7000 and the max. spread for the lifting blocks is 60". The lifting points on the X5/X6 is 64 1/2" apart center to center. I don't think this will work.

i bought a Certified 3tonn floor jack from canadian tire that comes with a pair of jack stands. first i tried it on my e92 an it does the job. i am yet to try it on my x5. from reading the comments, now i am a little worried that it wont be high enough for the x5? i also bought a torque wrench and a 1/2 inch drive to torque wheels after even winter/summer wheels swap!

You should be OK with the jack. Just torque the lugs to 101 ft/lbs.

If you want to lift your E70 from the approved jack points in the center front and rear I would not use that jack. That is sufficient for lifting each corner with 1-2 small blocks of 2x4 but the problem lies with/when using the standard jacking points. You can't effectively place your jack stands there b/c you're using it...

I have used a 1.5 Ton jack before in a pinch lifting each end but it's an all steel jack w/higher lift than that. Everyone at the track I see carries one those racing jacks around b/c it's so small/light/low/quick etc but no I would not trust that on an E70.

If you don't plan on moving your jack from your garage then buy a steel 3 Ton Jack, my craftsman one has lasted over 15 years I think and I just used it today putting my X on all four stands...I have a light Arcan alum 1.5 low pro for the lower cars also and track use but has a higher lift rate.

This is your BEST and CHEAPEST solution...Buy a good 3 Ton Jack these stands and pucks below - I use this all day and night...oh and get one 2x10 and cut you 4 nice even squares your jacks can sit on to give you extra lift, but also to save your floors and keep the jacks planted good.

Buy them you won't regret it...

http://www.amazon.com/Sports-Classic...ds=hockey+puck

The pucks will be about 1-2 mm shy of fitting flat on those stands but once you put the weight down from the vehicle fits perfect and saves your jack pads...no need to waste $ on all that fancy stuff. I'm too lazy to post pics but if you want some PM your cell. I have used these pucks many times over for the last two years w/o issues...if they ever mess up there are $2-4 not $20 for a fancy one!
