Add Oil
My info system is telling me to add at least 1 quart of oil, the level is suddnely low. It has only 21k miles, is it OK for X5 to consume oil out of the blue like that?
Any suggestions? |

Most engines consume some oil. If yourX5 is still covered by maintenance, and if convenient, just roll in and have them top it up. I can't be bothered to wait and all three of my cars use synthetic so I keep a 5 quart jug of Mobil 1 in the garage.

Thanks, I just changed the oil couple of months ago, now it shows at minimum. I have no idea if they put synthetic on mine, probably just normal oil, it won't hurt if I just add factory specified oil, right?

I've got just under 8k on my '13 50i and I've received this warning twice already. Just had the dealer top it off.

Thanks guys. I was afraid it was something serious. I knew about Audis consuming engine oil but never heard Bimmers do that, especially only 2 months after most recent oil change. It was right at Minimum tick on screen.
Just rolled into Oyster Bay BMW (I don't really name dealers) and super nice receptionist called a super hip valet, he drove my X5 right in, he topped it off and also topped all other fluids as well and brought it right back around. Great people. |

My drinks a quart a month on average. Those turbos will drink that thing dry.

Same thing here with my X6. Cruising down the highway on a road trip doesn't use a drop but when doing local driving with a lot of turbo boosting taking place it becomes very thirsty (both oil and fuel)! No need to worry!

While not inexpensive, ECS tuning has the BMW synthetic at a reasonable price, and it comes in a nice zip-tied plastic bag, perfect for storing in the car.
