Closing assist unit for lower tailgate malfunction.

I have some sort of malfunction on the closing assist unit for the rear hatch on my BMW X5 E70 2009. The unit have been disconnected and when reconnected the "D" metal part that moves when closing the hatch, does not just move once, hook on to the tailgate and closes(or opens) it opens, closes, opens, closes, opens closes a couple for times, before it stops. Sometimes it stops while the hatch is closed, sometimes when open. Anyone got a idea if this might a coding issue, or have the close assist unit gone mental and needs to be replaced ?
