Was Self Leveling suspension an option?

I always understood this feature to be included when the 3rd row was chosen but otherwise not included?

I'm looking at 2 different '12 50i's, built 2 weeks apart in Spring 2011. According BMWVIN.com, neither has 3rd row but 1 has self leveling suspension (option S220A) and the other does not. I've read some other threads on this topic from a few years back and there seemed at that time to be a bit of confusion on this.

Does anybody have any info on this? I don't see it listed as an option on the 2012 X5 50i build sheet.

I believe self-leveling was standard on all X5s with a 3rd row, as well as 2012+ models with the M Sport package.

Adaptive Drive was standard on 2011 M Sports, but became a standalone option on 2012+ M Sports.

Neither of these 2 have 3rd row and neither are M Sports...

Hmm, I'm not sure then.

Best thing I can suggest is to spec out the exact model here. It will show every available option and give you a sticker price.

I have an early 2011 50i (no 3rd row). The sticker denotes TWO line items as M Sport Package. The $6500 option includes in the description a bunch of items. One of which is self leveling suspension. Also ARS and EDC. Then I have another M Sport Package for $950 which breaks down the exterior enhancements. Also, I have a separate line item on the sticker for Active Steering for $1550. The BMW description for the $6500 M Sport Package (at that time) denotes it as an Option Code of ZMP

I had the exact same issue that you have. I was looking at 2011's and 2012's and they changed the way it was described at some point. I had the dealer pull the BMW description book to show me everything. I've attached a PDF of the M Sport Package description for a 2011.

Interesting….and this makes sense for 2011's…I think.

I've read the self leveling suspension comes with vehicles equipped with 3rd row and/or Adaptive Drive. 2011 M Sport's came standard with Adaptive Drive (2012 and 2013 M Sports did not come standard with Adaptive Drive) so it makes sense this year/model comes with self leveling suspension.

The two models I'm looking at are both 2012 xDrive 50i's. Neither of them have 3rd row or Adaptive Drive. One of them shows as having self leveling suspension, while the other does not. Strange...

My 2012 X5 50i was built 04/2011. It has Adapative Drive (02VA) and Self Leveling Suspension (0220) and no 3rd row seat. It also has multi-contour seats (0456) and full Nappa leather interior, including dashboard ... (not sure I like this ... it seems fragile). I think this car was custom ordered by the original owner.

I'm learning that E70 X5 build details are sometimes a little fuzzy (took awhile to figure out which models/years came with paddle shifters). There doesn't seem to be any clear cut literature on what models came with self leveling suspension

It seems there may be no easy answer.

My 2007 BMW X5 4.8i came with a 3rd row and the self leveling. I believe all models with the 3rd row came with the self leveling due to the front self leveling lights. When more weight is added to the rear the front lights adjust accordingly.

Please let me know if there is a thread on lowering a X5 with this option. I want to bypass the air suspension.
