X6 Problems

Bought an 09 50i in Feb. Like a dream for 2500mls then began hearing a whining noise from engine that went up and down with RPMs. Been at dealer 4x and BMW engineers have reviewed and are currently unable to solve problem. New 7 series has same engine and a couple of friends are now noticing same issue in their cars. Currently in suit w/ BMW under lemon-laws.

Sorry to hear about your problem. I just got mine back from the dealership after a problem with the engine over-heating.

Tested b4 delivery

I would not mind if a test driver at the factory have put one or 2hundred km on a car & have done test runs to iron out assembly issues b4 delivery.

Before filing a suit, you should call BMW NA and explain your problem and they will most likely assist you in getting another one. I had a problem with my '08 X6 50i and called them and they were great to work with and actually assisted me in having it replaced with the '09 one I now have and I have not had any problems yet (knock on wood).

Past Mercedes have had this whining sound due to odometer cable. Don't know if bmw uses a mechanical cable in the odometer system.

Hello fellow x6 owners. I also have experienced a number of issues with my x6 ('08 35i - 6k pampered miles) including the apparently infamous engine malfunction - reduced power problem, battery issues, oil related (had to make emergency stop to add oil, then sensor indicated dealer added too much oil, new sensor now on order) and malfuctioning passenger airbag. I do like the car - but 'ultimate driving machine' she has not been.

This is my first bmw - is it normal to have an ongoing series of issues - trips to the dealer on a new car or does this rise to the level of requesting a replacement? In regards to contacting BMW NA to request assistance - discuss a replacement - can you please further describe this process? Is there a threshold of problems at which they are willing to consider starting over, specific department you worked with, is the dealer involved, etc. Shenard - it seems like you had a positive interaction and found them to be responsive to your issues and supportive in your request to trade for a new one. Any info or advice fellow members might offer would be much appreciated. thanks.

Battery Issues!

Any battery issues should first make sure to get SA to check that the battery in your x6 is the correct battery with the correct part number.
the factory have been known to have installed the wrong battery in numerous x6's! Resulting in major headaches & time wasted!
