How to access rear caliper bracket E18 bolts

Hi. I was hoping to replace the rear brake rotors and pads of my 2011 50i. I had successfully done the fronts a couple years back. I could not, however, figure out any way to access the rear caliper bracket bolts. There is just no room there to get a socket in and to get any leverage. Any suggestions? I don’t have access to a lift — just a jack and stands.

I ended up just doing the pads since it was debatable if I needed rotors anyway at this point. But I would love to know if there are any great tips before I give up and send the rotors back.

Thanks!

I had a hard time getting the bolts off, but IIRC access wasn't a problem. Just couldn't get enough leverage. I used a jack to push up the breaker bar and that finally realeased them.

I think I removed the lower rear strut bolt, and moved the strut out of the way (and/or hub dropped low enough for access) for easier access. I don't recall this being a big hurdle. GL.

OH, use a jack under the hub for support and to make it easier to remove strut bolt.

I figured I would have to disassemble additional parts, but am not experienced enough to make the decisions about things like that.

It sounds like you were in there already, did you try long extensions w universal joints? It’s been about 2 years I was under there and don’t remember exactly how I did it, but again I don’t recall it being difficult. I took pix of my job and I see I have one w a breaker bar on the strut bolt, hence my suggestion. Post here if you get stuck.

I do recall needing a heat gun to more easily remove the old rotor.

Use a 14mm wrench/socket instead.
