BMW Sharkfish Amplification

Hey,

New to the forums, looks like a great place. Anyways, I've got a question.

I own a 2012 E70 35d and I'm looking to upgrade the use of the sharkfin antenna via the cradle. What I would like to do is the following:

1. Add an in-line cell signal booster, something like a Wilson Dual Band Mobile Wireless Cell Phone Signal Booster in order to add more power to the system.

2. Add an in-vehicle antenna, something like the Wilson Ultraslim antenna.

I drive in rural/forested areas a lot for business and sometimes go completely with no service. While I don't expect a magic bullet, it would be nice for my call service to be better and my tablet based GPS apps to load a bit faster over Edge/3G. I don't want to be tied down to the cradle, I want to be able to use the phone naturally (and also support other devices, such as a tablet with Edge/3G) - hence the in-vehicle antenna. All products will be from Wilson Electronics.

My question to the forum is really the following: In an E90 "Entertainment and Communications manual (the mechanics one I assume, because it has way more than my owners manual), I found that there may be a line compensator on the way from the cradle to the antenna, which might frustrate my plans. If there is no line compensator, I'm confident enough to spend the money and try the install. Short of breaking down the car from the cradle to the antenna, how could I figure this out?

If someone can help me get some sort of further information on this question - or at least some help to figure out where the line compensator would be installed if I do have to dig around, I'd really appreciate it. I'd love to try this upgrade, and if it works, I'm sure it could be a fairly popular mod (it doesn't cost much more than a cradle, should be pretty clean/hidden so as not to mess up the look of the car, and adds some serious functionality to the vehicle)...

Thanks!

Peter
