Carly For BMW connection Help!

I have purchased the Carly adapter and the Pro version with all the apps offered.
I have been a little Leary connecting to the vehicle, 2013 X5 3.5i E70

What is the proper procedure to connect to do the coding?

With vehicle off plug in the adapter?
Connect to phone?
Now do I push the start button once?
Twice?
And then do the coding I want to do?

When I first got it I did this with the car running and only changed to the digital speed readout on the gauge, it worked but I lost all time and radio settings and had to re input all that info.

I'm concerned about the proper sequence to connect for coding,

Carly web site has a lot of info but nothing that takes you from the beginning.

Thanks

Welcome.

If you are making any coding changes to the cluster, you will lose the time/date.
That's normal.

First, if you have a battery charger I highly recommend that you use it. If not, I'd get one before you start. Carly will not write your coding changes to the module(s) if the Vehicle Voltage is less than 12.5v, and its always a good idea to make sure you have a steady voltage when coding anyway...

I don't believe coding with the car running is recommended, but maybe I'm wrong...

1. Connect a battery charger
2. With the ignition off, and no key fob in the slot, connect the Carly adapter
3. Insert your key fob
4. Press the Start button 2x (with your foot off of the brake)
5. On your phone find the Carly Wi-fi adapter and connect to it
6. Start the Carly App on your phone...

You know the rest.

Good Luck, enjoy!
John

Thank you !!!!!!!
That is exactly the information I was looking for.
I do have a good quality charger that I will put on it before I start.
1 more question, how many changes would you recommend making before writing them back to the vehicle?
If I want to change some lighting, locking, trunk, ECT items for instance can I make all the changes and write it once or do 1 section at a time?

I like to do all of the changes in one module, then write them.

I'm sure there are probably some other best practices/ideas as well.

If that works for you I will give that a try.

Thanks again for sharing the knowledge!

BE CAREFUL coding your FRM. They are prone to breaking/malfunction.

jonniex5,

Carly has these instructions and a video too.
  • If you are using the Android bluetooth adapter deactivate the WiFi / If you are using the WiFi iPhone adapter deactivate the bluetooth
  • Deactivate energy saving or anti-virus software, while using the app
  • Restart the cell phone/tablet
  • Plug the adapter or the cable in the OBD socket
  • Switch the ignition on stage 2 or start the engine
  • Pair the cell phone/tablet with the Bluetooth or WiFi adapter in the cell phone settings (PIN for Bluetooth is 1234; no PIN necessary for WiFi); when using the USB-OTG cable the linking is not necessary
  • Start the app

I have done most of my programming pre-Carly but, the little that I have, I have done with the engine running. Probably better to use battery charger.

If you have difficulty pairing your Carly adapter get under it and make sure the light is on (Android adapter), if not, press the button to make the indicator light come on. I leave mine in place all the time but find that it occasionally will turn off.

Thank you all for the information,
I have an IPhone it pairs right up, last night I put the battery charger on it and activated the DVR in motion, the trunk open AND close from the switch and fob, got rid of the disclaimers, all went very smooth worked properly right after the re write.
I will be doing a few more this weekend and will report back.

What is the FRM?

Regards

The FRM/Footwell is the module that controls most of the lighting, windows and door locks and I believe maybe the wipers also...

Glad to hear you're coding is going well.

Thanks for the heads up,

I will tread lightly around that!

I do believe mine is included in the extended warrantee but I don't want to NEED to find out.
