I am now pretty good in keeping the valve open using a zip tie every once in a while. I actually feel like car runs just a little bit better with it open.
I think I know where the people who said they lost low end torque are coming from, it's just because the exhaust sound is louder they feel like they are not going as fast as exhaust sounds. Turn up the music and you will see the car is actually running better! |

Please compare apple to apple, since your exhaust is completely modified how can you said it is better to have the valve removed. We are talking about the effect of removing the valve with stock exhaust and not modified exhaust. Hello!

I tried the zip-tie method few days ago. I can notice the sound being noticeably louder, especially when starting up the engine.
But personally I think my N55 doesn't sound a good as N54. Maybe it's just me |

I just completed this mod and did a nice 30 mile drive. I first read the forums for the 335I and 135I guys, I do not know what they are thinking that if you plug the vacuum line that it will open the valve. I don't own a 335I but on the X635I the vacuum pressure is what opens the valve. So if you plug it the valve will never open. I did keep it open by wrapping a wire around it and pulling it open and then securing the wire. It won't melt like a zip tie and it is easy to take off. I can say it does sound better. Not quite as much as a $3,000 exhaust system. But for free its worth every penny. I did not notice any loss of low end torque which is common with free flow exhausts, and I do feel the car ran better. One other note is on my loop which I do daily to work, my MPG was up...still to early to tell on that for sure.

X6 Exhaust
Yes, I realized the same thing , at first I keep ignoring it ... yesterday I saw it again ... I figured I would Google it ... thanks for that info because I was getting worried that something may be wrong. Though it wasn't something I saw all the time ...
