BMW X6 m50d mpg
Hi
I have just bought a 2012 x6 m50d and absolutely love it, unfortunately The only thing I'm not very happy with is the fuel economy. The car is averaging 19mpg round town and 28-30mpg on the motorway sat at 70. I bought this car because of the stated 36mpg combined and was hoping to achieve 25-26 around town and 35-40 on the motorway. Does anyone have any ideas of what could cause the bad fuel economy? I have the tyre pressure at 39 psi front and 41 psi rear (read somewhere that this was a good idea on this car?) There are no faults stored in the car either? If anyone else has a 50d then what mpg are you getting? Thanks Dave |

My car has finally come up with a fault on the Egr so maybe this is the culprit?
I will keep you all updated on progress in case anyone else has a similar problem |

So...I average out at around 26mpg combined, which is a combination of town and country driving with some A roads/a bit of motorway. I've had around 32 on longer trips - nothing north of that and certainly not the 36 that BMW claim. When I bought it with 10k on the clock it was about 22mpg combined what with everyone taking it out and razzing it up and down the A3 to test drive it. I've personally never had it dip below 23 mpg and I drive it relatively hard. Hope that helps. |

Aside from that it is more likely to be a heavy right foot? |

When I boot it as I normally would (no point buying the 50d if I didn't like the speed) around town I get 16-17 and motorway 23-24. The only reason why I'm having a moan about the mpg is I have just got rid of a 3.6l v8 diesel Range Rover sport that did 16mpg town and 24 on motorway! I only got rid because of the fuel! By choosing the m50d I thought it was the smart choice having power and economy? |
